Dear all, has anyone else noticed that on page 169 of the joni mitchell companion by Stacy Luftig, the caption to the photo says Joni mitchell and bonnie raitt performing in illinois in 1985. Well if i'm not mistaken its a picture of Bonnie and Rickie lee. But the fact that Joni didn't talk to her doesn't mean that this won't be a good biography. Consider that most "definitive biographies" are written after the subject is no longer in a position to give interviews, if you get my meaning. Anyway, Karen's book has got to be better than Mr. Hinton's cut-and-paste job. That said, it looks like you're a busy group here. Happy Birthday to fellow Leos! I'm one, too. Mine just passed on the 16th (yes, Elvis died on my birthday - how square...). A couple of things to note... Bob, I think you were referring to GARY Usher. I just love "My Funny Valentine". My favourite versions are by Nico (yes, The Frozen One) and by Elvis Costello (yes, he is another favourite of mine ... tho I rarely listen to his words, oddly enough. I only trust a few with lyrics and that would fall on Joni, of course, and Laura Nyro). Twinkle ... didn't The Smiths record one of her songs ... "Golden Lights"? I don't have 'Fearless', but I have Tim Curry's 'Read My Lips' lp with his cover of "All I Want" on it. He also covers a Rough Trade song on it and does "Anyone Who Had a Heart", which Dusty had a go at, so Wally B. woulda dug this album a lot, I'm sure, Bless him. Being a Covers freak, myself, my curiosity is certainly piqued over this "Bob Muller's Joni Covers" collection. Can anybody fill me in? Finally, my favourite Joni cover is 'Hejira', too. What's this about the penis covers, tho? I kinda figured out the 'Mingus' one, but the others??? And happy belated birthday. My, my, you do ask a lot of questions, don't you? Which is a good thing because some of them are questions I've been wanting to ask as well, but never got around to it. I just KNOW there's someone on this list who can answer each and every one of them. I am a Joniholic too besides being Joni-obsessive-compulsive. Happy belated birthday!. I suggest you contact the Muller himself, you will find him THE most accomodating list member on earth. All I can say is you better have a great trade list and/or be able to afford a case of blanks. He has an amazing collection (which I am still trying to catch up with). The hejira thing is cleverly disguised as a hand in pocket (so to speak). Enjoy the music and this great arena. He did a couple Louis Jordan Numbers, a good old Satchmo cover and some originals. On his break he came into the cafe where I worked and I mentioned that he should do some Mingus. He mentioned that he once did Goodbye Porkpie Hat and that Joni Mitchell.... That is where I interrupted and said, YES! Her lyrics added so much to that song, I am a big fan. Well he and his wife were at the same show in 1998 at The university of Maryland! We talked a bit and then he said that he still does a cover of The Jungle Line. I asked him if he could perform it and he said he definitely would. Obviously, it was quite different from the Joni Version, but his vocals brought out the magnitude and color of the lyrics that Joni had on HOSL. I was so pleased that i got to hear a Great joni cover and one of my favorite songs. Sorry, Bob I didnt have a tape recorder to have it included in Covers Volume 23..but who knows, it may surface. Sincerely, Blair _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Aug 2001 22:32:47 -0600 From: "shane mattison" Subject: rare joni photo henry diltz has a rare one of joni that you can order where she sits on a car hood in the desert with an english writer, looking particularly fetching, http://www.henrysgallery.com/joni3.html shane ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Aug 2001 22:54:25 -0600 From: "shane mattison" Subject: joni and don henley, back-up singers to JT -video well, i'm getting more on this don henley joni connection...they look cute together, and sound great too as backup singers to james taylor in the following video (real media) of james taylor, only one: http://www.james-taylor.com/gallery/OnlyOne.ram shane ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2001 #254 ********************************* ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
