If there's anyone between the DC-metro area and Topsfield, Massachusetts, who is still considering going to JoniFest, and all that's keeping you from going is a ride, please consider this your last-minute invitation to ride with Hell and me. We'll be leaving Wheaton, Maryland, "sometime" in the early AM on Friday, August 31. Depending on the number of additional passengers, I will drive either my trusty Chevy Cavalier (seats four, but doesn't hold a lot of luggage), or my partner's equally trusty Dodge Grand Caravan (seats six, and has a roof rack in addition to decent luggage space inside). Helen and I will be sharing a motel room with two queen beds, and we can squeeze in a body or two, as long as you don't mind Hell's snoring (she's warned me about this, so I feel it's only fair to mention it -- Hell, you can sock me as soon as you see me at the airport)! Please reply asap, with at least a CC to me privately, and let me know if you want to join us! (Sorry for the short notice, but I just this morning confirmed I'll have the extra day off!) Hi Brian, Your post brings waves of nostalgia...I remember a road trip taken in the 1970s to the Oregon coast. "Hissing of Summer Lawns" had just been released and I was playing it constantly. As we crossed the bridge you mention I clearly recall the title track "HOSL" playing on the tape deck. This was during the infancy of automobile cassette decks. I had paid a small fortune for the big black Teac auto-reverse model (external bracket mount, of course...the damn thing was WAY too big to fit in the dashboard) and it spent more time in the shop than it did in my car but for moments like this it was all worth it. Whenever I hear that song I think back to that brilliant summer day on the highway next to the ocean. Bravo "Popular Song" Wed. Aug 15 11PM & 2AM EST Got this from rockontv.com, who are pretty reliable. Caught some of the series last night, it was excellent. Hank Williams wrote "Hey Good Lookin'" in the back of a car on the way to a gig. Wonder how many great songs were written in cars? Joni and Beatles did some for sure. Funny he didn't write more songs about cars, given the number he wrote about trains. I've seen it both ways on the Discussion list web site and Wally's site. I'd just like to get it right. If anyone has some good info, please email me privately. Thanks.
