If you want a list of all the interviews I have for transcription to the articles database, lemme know, I'm happy to share! The Amnesty benefit show she did was 6/15/86 in East Rutherford, NJ. Getting back to the '83 appearance, which is most likely the one you want...there is an audience recording of the complete show, and an incomplete recording made from the television broadcast. I don't have any video from that, but I do have both of the audio's. My friend lost 2 of her original songbooks: + Blue + Court and Spark She hasn't played in a long time, but it would be good for her to get back to it (long story of life gone awry). Anyway, I've done a lot of web searching (she's done a lot of actual foot- work) with no results. Can anyone help me find these? (She doesn't want anthologies; I'm not sure whether this is due to emotional reasons, or because the music is different). The cover I did of "Willy" has been played a lot on the radio (probably more than my own songs!) and I've gotten lots of nice press for it around. For anyone who might be interested: I have short interview on This Way Out, a syndicated show that probably plays on a station near you. See http://www.qrd.org/www/media/radio/thiswayout/stations.html or check out the streaming version with your RealAudio or Windows Media player at http://www.planetout.com/pno/radio/programs/two/ (the show entitled "the week of July 23, 2001") and should be available all this week. Didn't Joni perform in that all-day concert, which as I recall was simulcast from several sites, including Wembley. If I recall correctly, that was also Sade's international debut. Joni's songs about people generally seem to be about real people. Amelia is about (or addressed to) famous aviator Amelia Earhardt, who's plane vanished during a trans-oceanic solo flight. Furry Lewis is the subject of Furry Sings the Blues, Sharon is an old friend from Canada, etc. The songs on FTR chronicle Joni's breakup with singer James Taylor. They're like used car salesmen with too much power. And as their polling and focus group testing and media savvy have become more and more sophisticated, they're worse than ever. All flash, no real substance. It's true -- Abraham Lincoln couldn't get elected today. Probably couldn't even get a decent internship. At least not without a major makeover. The saddest part is, with the absence of inspiring leadership over the last few decades, Americans have become dangerously jaded by the whole political scene -- and we basically keep ourselves tuned out until some new sex scandal draws our attention back to Washington. It's like video killed democracy or something. But I have a cure for this situation -- I think Joni Mitchell should run for president. After all, she doesn't lie. Joni speaks the truth as she sees it, no matter how much it hurts. That'd be a refreshing change in a president, wouldn't it? And given her high standards, can you imagine the inspired choices she'd make for Cabinet secretaries and ambassadors? She'd restore funding for music and arts programs in the schools. Then she'd probably have the White House painted blue, just to shake people up a little bit. Although her Canadian birth makes her ineligible to run for president of the US, maybe we could join with Canada in creating a special one-time office for Joni -- President for Life of North America! She could run on the Folk/Rock/Jazz Ticket, since I'm sure she'd never want to be a part of any established Canadian or American political parties. I'd vote for her. After all, when it comes to things like vision and having an opinion and wanting to make the world a better place, she's miles beyond any of the dreck we've been tolerating for the last few decades. Plus, she's a genius. And it's been a long time since we've had one of those. So vote for Joni Mitchell -- She rules!
