I guess I missed "this whole VG-8 thing" when I was on hiatus from the list. I agree that the VG-8 kept Joni out of retirement and I love Taming the Tiger, but that doesn't change my opinion that Turbulent Indigo is my favorite album, especially for her masterwork on the acoustic guitar. It's like comparing apples and oranges, in my opinion. I would love to try a VG-8, although I'm a little worried that afterward I'd be cashing in Kate's financial aid checks to buy one! :-) I'm 40% sure I'm going to Topsfield this year. It depends on if I show up! I certainly want to be there!! :-) take care, sue >Don't tell me we are gonna start this whole VG-8 thing again. That damn thing saved my life and also kept Joni in our lives at a time when she >was >gonna throw ion the towel. I would love to hear LCL live though. Hey are you >going to JoniFest Topsfield?? (Covers 18 Lottery) A couple of folks have reminded me that I have yet to announce the giveaway for Covers 18, so forgive the slip... Anyway, YOU TOO can win a totally free copy of the "Jimmy-approved" Covers volume 18! Just name that tune (in no notes). Pick a Joni song, and the corresponding album, and whoever is closest wins. It's that simple! For example: "Blue Boy - Ladies of the Canyon" Please remember to send your response to JUST me. You wouldn't want to give any ideas to a JMDL opponent! Join the list of lucky JMDL'ers, and maybe you can join the list of quotes below*: "Covers Volume 17 changed my life!" - Yael Harlap "I got one and it makes a great beer coaster!" - Bob Murphy "You sent me a CD?" - Mags Let the games begin! Bob NP: The Pretenders, "Brass in Pocket (unplugged)" *I made up all these quotes ;~) Forgive my goofball mood, but the weekend is upon us! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Jun 2001 07:48:01 -0700 From: Steve Dulson Subject: Today in Joni History: June 7 Kate Bennett wrote: >>> Steve's pants, which are embroidered with "Ladies of the Canyon" geese. >LOL, love this additional concert info, Steve do you still have those pants? Great song!!!!!!!!!! Those girlish vocals on that track are totally inspired by Joni!!! In my opinion, Liz Phair is the best singer-songwriter to come out of the nineties. Liz has also mentioned that Joni has been a HUGE influence in her music! Liz's "Stratford-On-Guy" is a total tribute to "This Flight Tonight" if no one has figured that one out. To everyone: Check out Liz Phair's first album "Exile In Guyville", if you haven't already.....
