J&B is brand of blended scotch whiskey - meaning a blend of single malts and whiskey that is distilled from unmalted barley or corn. Much cheaper (and not as nice!) as an unblended, or "single malt" whiskey. Hope that helps! I thought it was really a huge step forward in viewpoint (i think she wrote it in 94 so it's a couple years old now). As far as Joni is concerned, if she had said I am not a feminist, I'm a humanist, it might not have hurt so much, but as much as I love the woman, Joni is a Joni-ist. Her goal was/is to further the art, so that didn't leave too much time to support other women (read competition). Her philosophies seem very power-oriented (in an individualistic way [dogeatdog]). David Crosby said she was as shy as Mussolini and Dylan called her a man!! :-) ha ha. She is definitely not a feminist (in my opinion). J&B scotch is very pale in color, and was always favored by hard-drinking foreign service personnel characters in Graham Greene's novels ... since they could mix their scotches and sodas much stronger without anyone noticing. As something of a scotch fancier, I can also tell you that the mixture of J&B and Coke would easily make anyone's top 10 List of foulest tasting cocktails imaginable ... which has always led me to think Joni intended the lyric to be a reference to drinking scotch while doing cocaine. Purest of speculations, of course! Hope that not TMI! ;-) Don Rowe ===== Visit me anytime at http://www.mp3.com/donrowe Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! It got me to thinking about who is close to me and what kind of possibilities that may hold. I also wonder if a group of other Joni fans might hold dating possibilities (gay male). Maybe I'd have more luck than cruising the bars. *you go down to the pickup station craving warmth and beauty.....etc. etc.* I just thought maybe it was time I "come out" into the JMDL community instead of just adding a post every month or so. You seem like a very warm interesting bunch of people I should get to know better. I'll try to make the next NY area gathering !!!
