The so called Spector sound could never have existed without Hal Blaine's explosive drumming and above all the performances of The Ronnetts. I suspect that when Destiny's Child ascend to world domination they will order a rewrite of those books :) Philip ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Apr 2001 11:59:34 -0600 From: Les Irvin Subject: Article database thanks At 05:02 PM 4/29/2001, Kakki wrote: >And if not in large part to you, Deb, this database may have never been. >See, it's all your fault that some of us have become walking datafiles of >Joni details ;-) But seriously, you can be very proud that what you started >has become such an important resource to so many, including authors such as >Stacy Luftig and other professional researchers. I agree! Deb Messling has contributed many, many, articles to the database since its inception - certainly more than anyone else. Without Deb, the database would be a fraction of what it is. And, I also want to credit Jerry Notaro (hot on Deb's heals for the title of Official JMDL Librarian :-) who also helps keep the article database fresh and growing. And, at the risk of leaving many people out, I also want to thank the amazing Judy Haugh and Les Ross. These two individuals have spent the last few months typing up articles like they are going out of style. The article database has grown by almost 100 articles since the beginning of this year, due in large part to the finger work of these two. A number of other people helped type as well, all of whom I will credit by name soon. Finally, another exciting development in the article database is Lindsay Moon's ongoing project of transcribing Joni's audio interviews. Among others, she's done the entire WMMR retrospective, the "My Top 12" tape, and the LACE "Amy Adler Curates Joni Mitchell" interview. Check the database out if you haven't visited in a while. http://www.jmdl.com/articles/ Thanks, Les NP: Los Super Seven ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Apr 2001 18:21:38 EDT From: RoseMJoy@aol.com Subject: Music lessons SJC I had my first official guitar lesson today! Oh my Gawd. Am I ever going to have the dexterity I need in these not so nimble fingers? My music teacher is a guy and his name is Les. Now I know three people with that first name, and yes all being males. He asked me what I listened to and I told mostly Joni. He said that he thought that she was probably the best music writers that ever lived. I think we're going to get along marvelously :~) He said he'd teach me some Joni stuff, but not in her open tunings. No, not quite yet, but eventually. So I guess there's my incentive. I'll keep you posted. Your callusses (calluses? calli?) will probably hurt like hell for a week or two, and then one day, it'll all seem normal and the pain will be gone. > [The teacher] asked me what I listened to > and I told mostly Joni. > He said that he thought that she was probably the > best music writers that > ever lived. It's a pain in the ass because you have to keep retuning the durn guitar, and it can't be healthy for it, but, once you start getting that Joni sound, you won't care!
