And, Bob, you're observation about "Midway" makes me think of "Carnival in Kenora" - "one kiss can sometimes make you feel like a spinning ferris wheel". At the same time, I'm thinking of Neil Young's "Sugar Mountain" - "with the barkers and the colored balloons" Joni, of course, responded with "Circle Game" - "and the painted ponies go up and down, we're captive on a carousel of time" I see a real carnival/amusement park theme here - and it's one Joni continues up to recently with "Harlem in Havana." Sorry if I don't have the quotes exact - I'm just being too lazy to go look them up. lots of love Anne ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Mar 2001 09:09:38 EST From: RoseMJoy@aol.com Subject: This from Willy The Shake Fwd: You don't know what you got till it's gone rosemjoy@aol.com Return-Path: Received: from rly-xb02.mx.aol.com (rly-xb02.mail.aol.com [172.20.105.103]) by air-xb05.mail.aol.com (v77_r1.21) with ESMTP; Sat, 17 Mar 2001 09:05:17 -0500 Received: from jktsm02.indosat.net.id (jktsm02.indosat.net.id [202.155.50.3]) by rly-xb02.mx.aol.com (v77_r1.35) with ESMTP; Sat, 17 Mar 2001 09:05:00 -0500 Received: from saya ([202.155.55.92]) by jktsm02.indosat.net.id (InterMail vK.4.02.00.10 201-232-116-110 license 730f8eb5c6a4977202bec32590427e0f) with SMTP id <20010317140012.QPMY2140.jktsm02@saya> for ; Sat, 17 Mar 2001 21:00:12 +0700 Message-ID: <006201c0aeeb$5d4dc7e0$57379bca@saya> From: "william" To: Subject: You don't know what you got till it's gone Date: Sat, 17 Mar 2001 20:59:13 +0700 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-9" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 4.72.3110.1 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V4.72.3110.3 Dear Rosebud petal, Forgive me if you've heard that one a thousand times. Anyways thursday around 1:30pm I picked my new best friend jbro and her manager (Pat) up at the airport. It was so easy to talk to her and we hit it off very well from the beginning. She is so much younger looking in person. I feel like her pictures on the albums maker her look older or more mature looking. Her eyes are amazing! She has a real mischievous look to her. We hung out most of the afternoon and after I got them checked into the hotel I took them to meet a local PD for a radio station. Most of the time Jonatha (riding shotgun and Pat in the back on the cell phone constantly) and I were gabbing it up about guitars and the VG-8 and the whole music biz in general. She has an incredible understanding of then whole music biz scene and I think that will benefit her in the future. She is really digging this album and is VERY excited about the DVD project that is coming out. I played Kate Bennetts CD while we were riding around as well as Tommy Malone's (formally of subdudes and Tiny Town) forthcoming CD, as well as the new Dave Matthew's. She is a music junkie like the rest of us. I told her about how much she has had a impact on the JMDL and that was how I discovered her music and what led me to contact her office to get her Jukebox. She thought that was very sweet and was very flattered. She said she had talked to friends of mine all over the country and remembered the situation with Penny and remembered Nikki asking about Louisiana JukeBox and getting me the Story CD (which I LOVE hi Nikki!). I asker her about her background in Boston and told her about the forthcoming JoniFest in Topsfield. She was intrigued about it and asked if Joni would be there. I told her this is the year we expect her to show up so she should come too. She starts her tour soon so i don't know if it would be possible, but if everyone sends emails inviting her, who knows, she came to my little TV show lol. I dropped her off at the hotel for a nap and change of guitar strings and I went on to the show to do my thing. She arrived just after nine and started tuning up. We went through her set for rehearsal and I was positively captivated. She sang Linger, Digging, and Red Dress. She is so incredible solo and I am so proud of the actual sound quality that came across on the performance. I asked her if she would please play another song for me after the show was over. She will be back here in June to play a concert and I told them I would run that clip to promote that event. She asked which one and I of course asked for my faves Always or Because I Told You So. She chose the latter. After hearing her sing the entire crew was pumped up about the show and dug her alot. I invited several friends to come sit in the audience and check her out, which they did. She made alot of eye contact with me and I DO believe I am still melted into several blobs on the floor of the studio. The LIVE show went off great and she was flawless. Her interview with Nikki was great and I think she is so real with NO phoniness about her at all. Everyone loved her and enjoyed the set very much. Of course everyone was kidding me and throwing jabs at me cause I was so taken with her, but "What Me Worry??" I can't help it if i am a music slut. Anyways it was all over to soon and before I knew it I was driving them back to the hotel to get to sleep (they had a 5am flight). She signed my picture and CD and gave me a big hug and thanks. We agreed to stay in touch and I am going to send her some patches for the VG-8. I can't wait till she comes back here with the band. If you are NOT a fan yet, I strongly urge you to go out and get some of her work and if you are in the Cleveland, Austin, or Memphis areas, check her out on Louisiana JukeBox on this weeks show (check out our website for times etc. www.louisianajukebox.com . It might help to send emails to her requesting them to put the videos up on HER site. I will post a few pictures from the show on the jonimitchellfans site right away! Check out our new set! That's about it. I hope everyone has a nice weekend and thanks to all for all the good wishes. I plan to spend the afternoon playing some music with one of my oldest friends.
