Do mini-fests count? I was at the mini-fest prior to the Clarkston BSN show and I'm a Brit :) Cassy NP: Public Television - The Antiques Roadshow ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Feb 2001 21:51:26 EST From: SCJoniGuy@aol.com Subject: Re: yeah, Joni's gorgeous/Covers Vo. 14 << This is another great one, well-arranged by Bob and with nice art work. The Midnight Cowboy Song doesn't sound like Joni at all! >> Thanks for the good words, Kakki...I agree about Midnight Cowboy, I'm dying to hear what Joni sounded like singing it...on a similar note, I have the recording of O.C. Smith singing "Just Couldn't Help Myself", that Joni co-wrote and this one sounds a LOT like Joni to me. Has a real "Help Me" C&S feel to it, soulful jazzy feel... Can't you just see Joni grooving to that funky Andy Milne "Free Man In Paris"? I love it!! Bob ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Feb 2001 19:15:43 +0000 From: Catherine Udall Turley Subject: Joni Giveaway Hello friends. I am divesting. Life is too short to be dragging around too much stuff, even if it is cool Joni stuff. ( So, can you tell I've moved house twice in the last year, and had all my earthly possessions in a storage locker for four months?) So I'm looking at my Joni Stuff, and realize that I have duplicates and things I am not really attached to. They must go. I am not so cold, of course, that I don't want them to go to loving, Joni-friendly homes. <> Won't you help? In the spirit of good and generous listers like SC Bob and Lama (and many others, of course) I am giving away the following items (all I ask is reimbursement for the cost of sending them to you. Non-US listers step right up, we'll work something out for postage). Email me if you would like any of these items. If I get multiple requests for the same item, I will draw names from a hat. I'll collect emails until Friday, March 2nd at midnight PST. 1) August 1998 issue of Mojo Magazine. 1 Copy. Joni on the cover with other "American Masters." (like Randy Newman and Prince and some other guys). Cool interview, lots of lovely full color photos including shots of her fabulous Bel Aire Spanish style mansion. Find out what Joni says! See her house! See her stuff! 2) 12" Vinyl Single of "Snakes and Ladders." 1 Copy. Why do I own this? I have no recollection of purchasing this. I have no recollection of ever playing it, yet there it is, sitting in a box next to my Lily Tomlin LPs. This is just the album version of the song, no extra material, on a 12" vinyl disc. It could actually be unplayed, and certainly is in mint condition. Cover has something written in blue ballpoint in one corner, and the art is a large bluish duo tone from the CMIARS era (The Joan wrapped in an Indian blanket, wearing a hat) . Hate this song? Get it and face your demon. Love this song? Get it and wallow in its delicious late 80s-ness. 3) AD From Billboard Magazine, 1985, for Dog Eat Dog. 1 Copy. About 11 by 17 inches. Paid way too much for this on eBay in a moment of irrational affection for my loved DED. Arrived laminated on a textured piece of green cardstock. V. disappointed. Let this banner of my suckerhood make your heart light, because for you, it will be FREE! 4) CDR: The Hissing Demos, or The Seeding of Summer Lawns, as transferred and packaged by our own Don Rowe. Multiple copies. Has the legendary Hissing of Summer Lawns demos, plus some live goodies after the demos. Several copies with cool HOSLesque artwork 5) CDR: AT & T Presents Stormy Weather. Multiple copies. The Walden Woods benefit concert from the Spring of 1998, recorded at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. Performances by Joni, Bjork, Shawn Colvin, Trisha Yearwood, many others. Will be glad to make copies of this till the complete concert is commercially available. 6) CDR. Joni live @ the Greek Theatre, May 12, 2000. Opening night of the BSN tour. Multiple copies. Audience recording with digital mic and minidisc recorder. Featuring much very loud clapping, a number of barely discernible under-the-breath comments, (which you can make out if you listen on the headphones) microphone jostling. And a sublime concert experience. Guest appearances by Herbie Hancock, Mark Isham, Larry. Includes the whole of the BSN album, plus the new orchestral versions of Be Cool, Judgment of the Moon and Stars, Hejira, For the Roses, and Trouble Man. Limited number of these 2-cd sets feature special limited-edition artwork guaranteed to leave you feeling fresh all day. 7) BSN 2000 tour program. Multiple copies. Shamelesly picked up post concert from amidst the spilt beer and french-fry strewn aisles of the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. Some of them have "character." (Scuffs and folds. Lesson learned from Mr. Dulson: If you want clean copies, ask an usher.) These are just single letter-sized sheets, folded in half, but sometimes they show up on eBay for $10 a piece. (See #3 above re: being an eBay sucker.) All you gotta do is ask! If you are in the USA, just send me VHS blanks and return postage. From Canada, send the blanks and I will bill you for return postage if you can pay in US Dollars. (UK residents, who use the PAL encoding scheme should post a polite request to the List. There are JMDLers in the UK who can help you out.) Video Tree #1 (on 2 VHS tapes) and Video Tree #2 (on two other VHS tapes) contain footage of Joni in the early days on black and white TV in the swingin' 60s through the opening of the 'voices' show in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan last year. You'll even see Joni's childhood home in Saskatchewan! Your copy of the video trees will be dubbed from my copy made by Ashara herself. Some of the segments are in mono and some are in nice, hiss-free stereo. Vol 1 is complete with reproductions of the jackets and Vol 2 is complete with the 'voices' liner notes. Write me off-list for details........ Lama np: Tom Petty's "Into the Great Wide Open" produced by Geoffrey Lynne. Yeah, the lyrics suck but it rocks. You got a problem with that??? About Catherine T.'s take on foreign language films: Yeah, what she said. Subtitles over dubbing any day. About George Harrison: Oh, it's so nice to see a thread about George. He's always been one of my all-time, Top Three, favorite Beatles......... :) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Feb 2001 23:24:30 EST From: TreyCozy@aol.com Subject: Re: Least Favorite Joni Songs Can I just say something in defense of this thread?! I actually made a wonderful tape of all my "least favorites" and ones I generally scoot past, and I must say, I have grown to really like a lot of them!!! I remember this mix tape well. The first song was JUNGLE LINE!! I have such a new appreciation for it now.. Anyway, just my three and a half cents..
