And yes she was gorgeous ...even from where I was sitting. The ticket meister misled me and the seats weren't as good as I had hoped . (oh WELL) I was very disappointed with the acoustics or lack thereof. And I must say that it felt very strange/sad to be sitting IN the Gardens after all that went on there...very sad indeed. Talk about ghosts dancing in the dark. *shudder* That said, I remember sitting there thinking OMG this really IS Joni...so surreal after wanting to see her for so many years. I feel sorry for my mistake, because I was only stoned by my stupidity when stating that Ramona is the Austrian version of Joni Mitchell. Of course, every human being is unique in the vast cosmos, so that my A=B comparison is inadmissible. However, I think that one can find some similarities between Ramona and Joni in different musical dimensions of comparison. Sometime during Ramona 's Woodstock song interpretation in Nov. 2000, I had a flash of inspiration that it was possible to invent a theoretical concept for a new hippie movement (the so-called starflowerchildren or starchildren). Now, I am trying to convince myself that it is possible to do that, but I also see one fatal error of the old hippie movement that died around 1970 (see e.g. Joni's Blue song): Heavy drugs were set in and flower power was over. So, I think drugs should be replaced by a healthy meditation technique. The so-called mystical experience (many hippies know what I am talking about), can also be provoked by the appropriate meditation technique instead of taking hallucinogenic drugs. This experience is characterized by a drastical release of very basic distinctions (e.g. the self-world distinction and the past-future distinction). This is a feeling of wholeness or unity between the self and the cosmos (the so-called oceanic feeling). Of course, there were also other major factors that led to the decline of the movement. But the new concept of starchildren, starflowerchildren, children of supernovae, and starstuff-everything is, more than we care to realize, a cosmopolitan idea, rooted in Manhard Schlifni, Joni Mitchell, Ramona Kasheer, Heather Nova, Carl Sagan, Rupert Sheldrake, Immanuel Kant, Cyber-Hippies, Woodstock, Cosmology, Astronomy, Chaos Theory, Feminism, meditation, spirituality, humanity, New Age, participatory Democracy, collective consciousness, vegetarian food, Greenpeace, Club of Rome, love energy flow, noave stars, red giant stars, supernoave stars, the Planetary Society, and the United Federation of Planets. Special thanks go to Joni for the invaluable impulses of her Woodstock song. Joni's music has touched my mind, heart and soul. I am so happy that - in the infiniteness of time and the vastness of the cosmos - I can share the same planet and the same epoch with Joni. Stardust we are; To the glowin stars we shall return, maybe someday. Manhard PS: When you go to Vienna to see a concert from Ramona, forget about the need to wear flowers in your hair. She always came across as a very down-to-earth and savvy woman. No doubt a great mother, too. I immediately thought of her kids left behind, for some reason. Song For Sharon partially refelected on a paradox; that being that Joni dreamed of being a wife on a farm, and Sharon dreamed of being a singer. It turned out the other way around, although Sharon did become a singer on a more local basis and even recorded "Both Sides Now" under her married name of Sharon Veer. When I saw Joni perform the song on her '98 tour (the only performance of SFS), she introduced it as "Song For Sharon Bell". I was delighted to hear it as I love all of Hejira so much and SFS in particular. I found a news article saying she was swimming in Mexico, and was run over by a speed-boat - an accident which happens pretty frequently in NZ in the summer, unfortunately, particularly with jet-skis. I've also been watching re-runs of French & Saunders here, and they've been showing a series where Kirsty MacColl performed a song in each episode - she had a great voice. This song with its cw arrangement is a real interesting song by Joni I remember Dylan and Joan and few other folk singers went country in the 70's but Joni went down the LA express way. My Joni Cd library has a gap between Chalk Mark and T I so i do not know of any other CW Joni?. I was singing River today while I was crossing the Columbia River which does not freeze up so instead of skating away i would sailboard away. Meanwhile in Bluegrass country Alison Krauss's Forget about it is real moving collection of songs with Quality backup The Dobro by Jerry Bass is first rate Here in Oregon i noticed a new white VW bug with a graphic logo on the door saying Oregon Ferret Society. Hey Mark or Travis I was a LA from Jr High till College then I became and 24 7 365 Architect totally gave up Fiction till i got Harry Pottered, Good thing they only come out once a year.Your Email is a keeper.
