I thought that was Peter Gabriel in the video playing the part of the good friend! It was reported by one of my covers scouts that there is a new live Chaka Khan DVD out with a performance of Man From Mars on it! This is great news, I'm always especially delighted to see artists picking Joni's recent catalogue to cover! Any of you Chaka fans want to step up and snag this one for the collection? Now I'll show my ignorance...is it a complicated process to transfer a song from a DVD to an audio CD? btw, I think this DVD is only available as a "Region 1", which means it won't play in European players. Whoever came up with this Region 0/1/2 nonsense should be pistol-whipped! And while I'm thinking about covers scouts, are there any JMDL'er in Japan who can scout around for some Japanese Joni-covers? Manno? I know that Joni is well-loved in Japan, and I'll bet there are quite a few Japanese artists that have done Joni's music. Maybe even enough to put out a whole Volume! (I can see it now...Volume 14, "Turning Japanese"! ;~D) Which also reminds me, Jason, I will brave the traffic today to try and find that Dido DVD for you... Bob NP: Tom Waits, "Heart of Saturday Night" (2nd Waits tune that Sonicnet has given me, no Joni yet. Maybe they're still dusting them off! :~D) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 2 Dec 2000 10:41:04 EST From: FMYFL@aol.com Subject: Video Tree #2 A BIG BIG Thanks to Ashara for all of her hard work on the new Joni video's! I got mine a few days ago, and both tapes are FANTASTIC!!! On volume one, it's so great to see Saskatoon, The Mendel Art Gallery with all of Joni's great works, the press conference, and some familiar JMDL faces in the crowd. You did a great job of capturing everything Ashara!!! I just got through watching volume two, and it's fantastic too! The MuchMusic "intimate and interactive" is captivating. Joni sings some of my favorite songs, and she answer's a lot of questions in between. She really has a great sense of humor, and you learn so much about her. Thanks to everyone that contributed to the making and distribution of these videos (Simon, Rick, Linda, JJ, Les). You all put in a lot of hard work and I've enjoyed these two videos immensely. Ashara, you're the best! What a wonderful (early) Christmas present. MG, Nikki and I are attempting to organize a get together on Jan 13-14 in SF. The facility for the fest is my place of work. It is an old, large funky warehouse with tons of space. (I work for a very laid back custom screenprinting business. T-shirts will be supplied!!) Recording equipment will be supplied by some co-workers. We would like some feed-back from any interested Joni-philes. This will help us determine whether it would happen or not, blah, blah. Housing is an issue (though I suspect not a huge issue) At this point, it would be best to get in touch with any of us (please cc to all three) so we can decide the next step. And please, be gentle! DJRD is one of my top 3 Joni's....The whole 'side' of Otis, 10th and Dreamland is like a suite to me. There is no dangling chad in my little voting booth of Joni love. The hole is clearly puched in favor of 10th. It is the tie that binds Otis and Marlena in the tackiness of God's waiting room to the wild abandon of Dreamland. The shaking off of the physical reality to what could be, and the journey that is required between from one to the other. Fie on 10th World deatractors! I am not exactly sure what a 'fie' is.....but it sounds very theatrical, no? Smooches, Russ - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get more from the Web.
