Hi everyone! I have been totally overwhelmed here, and haven't looked at a post for over 2 weeks. I am going away, but I wanted to get a few things out to you: 1) I visited Anne on Tuesday, and brought all the wonderful Joni items that we, as a group, got for her. I have to admit, (even though this is probably blasphemy,) I was more excited about delivering these gifts to Anne and seeing her face light up then I was to see Joni last week. Don't get me wrong, it was an incredible 2 days of Joni, and of meeting JMDlers, but this is what is real to me, making a difference in someone's life. So, my hats off to all of you generous people that sent donations and pledges. She was mightily surprised, and wildly happy. It was such a gift to see her beautiful, smiling face. I took many digital shots, adn just sent them to Les, so hopefully you will all get to see her too! 2) Tape Trees: My apologies that the next set of video trees has been slow in getting out. I've had some personal setbacks, including the death of a family friend, so it will be a while longer before these get out. Please be patient. I am aware that I am holding on to precious original videos that have been entrusted to me, and it is my intention to get this project going as soon as I can. Also, if you have sent me tapes to dub, again please be patient. I try to get them right out normally, but due to circumstances, I will get them out to you as soon as I can. Thanks so much for your understanding. 3) The 3rd Annual New England Jonifest is still happening!! As soon as I get back after the 22nd, I will gear up with more info, and Les has agreed to set up a webpage to go to for information. This will happen soon, I promise. In the meantime, set aside Labor Day weekend for a great time! 4) Lastly, I know I will not have time to read list mail for quite a while, so if there is anything I need to know, please e-mail me privately. I am definitely going to Saskatoon, so count me (and Sal) in for absolutely everything, and let me know where I should be, when I should be there, what I owe whom for whatever, etc. ::grin:: Hugs, Ashara www.photon.net/lightnet ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jun 2000 22:28:35 -0400 From: "Jim L'Hommedieu" Subject: Ask An Expert Hello boys and girls, and welcome to "Ask An Expert". A question for Jon Von Tiel: Here's a really naive wine question from middle America where we generally have no clue on fine wine........ I can't stand the gasoline afterburn of Berenger's White Zinfendel after tasting your wine selections JoniFest2000- New Orleans! Can you recommend 3 or 4 better whites? Or does one just buy 4 and sample? DETROIT, June 8 — The three largest American automakers announced Thursday that they will extend health care benefits to the partners of gay employees. The announcement from General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and the Chrysler division of DaimlerChrysler AG covers about 465,000 employees and could signal that such benefits will become standard in corporate America. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Jun 2000 15:17:06 +1200 From: "Helen M. Isn't that a great line? Mind you, I have to say, if I was living in LA, I know where I'd be heading every day at 3pm - The Daily Grill in Brentwood! I'm surprised she let them publish that little fact! She also thanks their parking staff in the TTT liner notes and mentioned it at one of the '98 L.A. shows. We've had a couple of small jmdler meets there (but only when we've heard she is out of town!) and it's just a nice, ordinary place with real good food. I wonder if she still hangs out there - maybe she just publicizes it now to throw people off the track from her real hangout ;-D Kakki ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jun 2000 21:28:17 -0700 From: "Kakki" Subject: Re: the hissing lawns Howard M. asked: >Is Bel Air really considered the suburbs of LA? At the time the songs were written 25 years ago, yeah, I think so. L.A. was not anywhere near the teeming, traffic-tangled megalopolis that it is now. And Bel Air is still tucked away in the mountainside and is naturally protected from city encroachment. >It's so hard to tell out there but it all seems like one big >sprawling city out there. I always imagined the characters in HOSL to be residing in the Valley. Now *that* was true suburbia (but has now also become wall to wall pavement and traffic. I'll be arriving Thursday, June 29 and might decide to spend the night at the door of the Mendel which may not be too early to line up judging from the info in the Globe article (Australia!? South Africa!?) How will we Listers identify ourselves to each other? Hearts on sleeves? Tattoos on foreheads? Pre-arranged meeting place? Evian, you may be our only source of Toontown info. Any favourite spot you think would be a good place to meet up sometime on Friday?
