The other amazing part was Dave (Guitar point) He met Joni while she was in her limo, gave her roses, had her sign his guitar and then asked for an autograph for a good friend namingly CATGIRL!! and gave me his CD cover of Hejira with the inscription...Hello Cat Girl Joni Mitchell.....I was totally blown away. It was such a wonderful thoughtful gesture on Davids part. Thanks so much for thinking of me. Also, I did try to get her autograph but Sam Feldman (her manager) told me that she HAD breen sick befor the tour started and was NOT seeing any one or doing anything after each show at all. So NO LUCK on the autographs at this point. I do have a few ideas up my sleeve and will think of something. Catgirl another WHOO-HOOOO evening PS!!! If I only had one thing to say to JM, it would be "I expected nothing less." Being my second time around for BSN (and seeing JM live for that matter), I wasn't as choked up as I was at the LA concert. Not to diminish the performances - as others have reported on the show, it was much better than the opening night. Practice makes the perfect more perfect. Our excellent seats and my ability to not fixate on JM afforded me the opportunity to watch the process of the concert much more carefully. One observation was the string section not being used for Be Cool. I loved watching non-playing orchestra members smiling and toe-tapping to Be Cool. Most looked like they were really enjoying themselves. I REALLY enjoyed the orchestra this go round. They really do an excellent job, given the limited rehearsal time they were provided. Also this time around, I really liked Ludwig's Theme which I failed to appreciate in LA. I echo Mary's sentiments about Laura and Jody. What a couple of great gals. They had us all organized to have fun. And we did. They cracked me up. When discovering that JM was staying at the Ritz-Carlton downtown, they were all over that place. Back with information that only JM had retained her room (in hindsight, she should have moved on to Detroit!) they scoured the local hotels to find Klein. They had it covered! For me, the best part of the trip was meeting more listers, besides the incredible gal pals. It was a blast! I know I am forgetting some, but Reverend Vince, Patti Smith's Michael, Dressed-up Mary, Joni-Blessed Richard, Always On Steve, Very Cute Doug, and the traveling Dutchman made me feel especially welcome in my second favorite city's suburbs. OH MY GOD! What a show. Joni was in fine voice - a bit hoarse at times, but powerful and flexible. Her performances of the BSN tunes struck me as much jazzier and sexier than the album cuts, as much as I *love* the album. "Judgement of the Moon and Stars" made me cry. It is a beautiful arrangement; very theatrical, and Joni wrings out every ounce of pathos! Same with "For the Roses." She is borderline sentimental with these songs, but just *borderline,* never going over the line into schmaltz. If this is the mood of the next album, I'm gonna invest in Kleenex. We've heard tell of stupid audiences, but as far as I could see, this was a good crowd. We probably generalize from the people in our immediate neighborhood, and mine was appropriately worshipful. There was one guy who called out "Help Me!" and Joni said, "Somebody help him!" News of the year: my husband Ron stayed awake! I was worried that I would spend the evening giving him the wifely elbow in the ribs. He is famous for having fallen asleep sitting in the bleachers at a Frank Zappa concert, and he is one of those who "loves Joni's old stuff," but he was absolutely impressed by what he saw last night. Don't ever say that again! Our task is to all save up for her next tour... I for one plan to at least double my concert sites from the BSN tour, for the next time around. And at least one of those concerts next time will be sitting with Laura and Jody again! And the next time, I will smuggle Laura's drink into the theatre... Pretty funny Deb. I liked how she changed into her black batcape for stormy weather, Wooh ahhh! Scary. Glad to hear Ron enjoyed the show... I asked one of the guys seating the folks how he liked Joni and he said he prefers Jethro Tull. Oh well I do like Jethro Tull too, but... I sat next to a nice lady who thought it was my ass that was spilling over onto her seat. In the second edition that came out in '91 or whatever, I think HOSL was given 3 stars... I dunno, I can't seem to find the new edition (probably stuffed under a bed or something) but I remember clearly that HOSL was given 2 stars and a bad review in the first edition. And, I think, the two star review was the lowest that they gave in the Joni canon up to S&L, so they basically said it was rubbish, the bastards.
