Oh I don't know, MG, they look pretty involved to me. Every time I look at it I wonder who took the photo Joni did the painting from. It doesn't make me think of ice. It reminds me of seeing a couple on the subway (everything at some point can be seen on NYC subways, the drama of it all) and it's morning and I guess this couple just hadn't finished playing yet. And it's crowded of course. So we're all hearing a very un-subway-like sucky sound, and people look, look down, look again, look away, look again, looooookk, awwaaaaay, phew, look up, look again, sneak a peek, look at everyone else looking, swiveling heads, the view out the window into the tunnel reeeaaaaally needs my attention, uh oh, there's a reflection, some giggling, but nooooooo, we're not watching, fascinating, kind of like seeing some alien perpetual motion machine. Shortest subway ride I've ever had. So the photographer somehow kept it together to actually use a camera. How? You girls can talk about french kissing as long and as often as you want! :) Right guys?! >Mary Grace wrote: > > it is not them french kissing or doing anything kiss-like. > Debra Shea wrote: giggling, but nooooooo, we're not > watching, fascinating, > Shortest subway ride I've ever had. Lamadoo who actually turned off "Song To A Seagull" to put on David Lahm's "Jazz Takes On Joni" and Herbie Hancock "Gershwin's World" Now there's an idea- Herbie producing for Joni!! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 May 2000 23:31:35 EDT From: SCJoniGuy@aol.com Subject: Covers Comments Well, I've spent the better part of the evening throwing all the new covers I've received this week onto Volumes 4 & 5. Here's what I added tonight, I just felt like commenting on these: Leonard Nimoy's "BSN" - Leonard & Claudine are the King & Queen of cheese! Wow, is this one putrid! He even starts it out "swirls and curls of angel hair"! What, Joni's lyrics not good enough for you, pointy-eared boy!? Nazareth, "This Flight Tonight" - boy, this one brings back some memories! I remember hearing it when it first came out in the 70's, don't think I've heard it since. You gotta figure Nazareth's vocalist owned all the amplifiers when the band started up, otherwise they'd have never let him sing. And in an extreme bit of irony, I also got Nazareth's newer "unplugged" version of the same and it is GREAT! The vocal is much better, the whole rhythm and tone of the cover is changed, and there's some really good slide guitar too...A+ Rosanne Cash, "River" I don't know if this is the prettiest River I've heard, but it's up there. This one is very smooth...thanks to Clive in England! James Brown, "How Do You Stop" OK, so shoot me, it's not really a Joni song, but like "Twisted" I'll always think of it as one. Besides, the righteous JB infuses this one with soul and it's a winner. Anyway, I think Joni decided to do the song after she heard this version, right? Sarah McLachlan & Lilith Fair, "BYT" If Joni won't come to the Lilith Fair, the Lilith Fair can come to Joni! This one's super, you can tell by the gang singing this one that they all love and respect Siquomb immensely, nice arrangement too. Jason Falkner, "BSN" Wow Wow Wow!!! Most of you will think this one sacrilege, but it rocked my world tonight! Picture the Ramones and The Byrds melding into a jangly, power pop rockin' group and this is what you get. Allright, so some of the sensitivity of the lyric is diluted, but man this thing kicks ass!! Where did this guy come from? Thanks to Philip for these final three - Philip, you're about to earn a spot in the pantheon of my "Hall of Fame" contributors! Volume 5 is just about done, probably enough room for 2 more tunes. Volume 4, the cheesy one, is moving along slowly waiting for Stephen (aka Cheese Whiz) to get back home and send me Doris Day, Jim Nabors, maybe some others....
