I haven't heard BSN and I am not as much of a Joni Musicologist as many who are on this list (and wow, I have learned a lot from you. What I am is a songwriter who somehow learned the art and craft of songwriting from Joni by growing up listening to her. And she still teaches me. I absolutely love her voice now and I loved it when she was a soprano. I unabashadly adore most of her early material and I love a lot of her newer stuff. And whatever the period, the songs I love most are the ones that are full of rhythm so I have to agree with the following: "I am not moved by the sort of swoony romantic over-the-top orchestration on BSN... ...the guitar (its rhythms, its sound, its tunings, its fundamental role in the creation of the album) is such a part of that album and those songs that I think its absence would deeply affect them. And I don't know if an orchestra could get the rhythms, the jazz element. And, like I said, a lot of the songs from Blue and Hejira and DJRD are so personal that I don't know if they would work." ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 May 2000 01:02:11 EDT From: IVPAUL42@aol.com Subject: Re: JMDL Digest V2000 #231 In a message dated 5/7/00 9:20:09 PM Eastern Daylight Time, wallykai@interserver.com.ar writes: << This week, however, with a broken tooth and a broken relationship, I have > little patience for people. > > Paul I > are the two events related? wallyk >> Not that I can tell. Maybe in some karmaic way, but not overtly. It's really just a piece of filling that broke and fell out while flossing today.
