I think my posts are gaining frequency....I think I'm up to once a month! Well, I work at Barnes and Noble, as some of you know, and I was bored last night as it was "gettin' on time to close" and I did a Joni search to see if I could find something interesting that I didn't already have...so, all of a sudden I notice a book that had a pub. date of 5/99 (obviously incorrect, as the status field said: "Not Yet Published"), with the title, "Memoirs" and the author, Joni Mitchell! Does anyone know anything about this? The list price says 27.50, so I'm picturing a nice hardcover autobio with some really great pictures, maybe...I can't wait. I just hope this isn't false info. (i went for cheapest: the price range they quoted on the phone was $125/$75/$50.) i'm so ecstatic, you all!!!! i can't wait for may 22. and, this will be my FIRST time REALLY seeing her live (i was at the joni's jazz where she came on stage and sung some notes, but... this will be quite a change, i imagine...!!!) i want to say how sorry i am that i couldn't help out other people who needed tickets for the NYC show -- i am broker than broke as anyone who knows me will attest to (ah, the life of a graduate student) -- and have no credit card of my own so had to borrow a (very, very, VERY good) friend's to use. i wish everyone the best of luck getting these tickets and want to say COUNT ME IN for the post-concert JMDL hang-out (we are going to have one, right?)...and also count in my boyfriend tagging along (currently in the "you're my thrill" stage!), who is being an excellent sport about all this and saying things like "um, what's this 'list' all about?" oh, honey, just you wait! - -- emily NP: the silence of my room before i put on BSN and crank it, lie on my bed, and swoon! yippee! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Apr 2000 09:42:44 -0400 From: "ers" Subject: Re: HIGH FIDELITY Hi JulZie, You're right about my opinion about "High Fidelity". Fantabulous is right! I saw it on opening night! Nick Hornby was on NPR (always a good sign) hawking the story about a month ago. Who ever it was interviewing him (Terry Gross?) said she loved it, and it was funny, etc. Then I read an interview where Cusak talked about the book and he loved it. You know who was funny? Those two record store employee characters. He saw lots of funny detail! Like the fact that the bigger guy was wearing a _vintage_ jacket. How accurate and funny! All those ex-girlfriend portraits remind me of my ex-es, especially that Catherine-Zeta Jones character who talked all the time but never _said_ anything. And Cusak's character comes in like a jerk and goes out like a better man. And his finacee shows him that being a record store owner is one of his "Top Five" best possible, all-time, cool jobs. How tender! There was a lot of literary richness, that's for sure. And record lovers are so interesting, don't ya think? :) :) :) Sorry to bounce this! I had just graduated from high school and was still trying to decide what to do when I grew up. Yes, life certainly was so much simpler then. Or so it seemed. Not to sound too nostalgic, but those were the days when FM radio had a certain air of mystery and magic. There were few ads and garble to be found...and more often than not, there was plenty of real and good music which was a rare treat. It was into the wee hours of one such magical night that I sat alone in a little room in the back of a big old Anglican church where the office was located. Through hours of silence, I waited for calls to come in. I can still hear the creaking of the old wooden stairs which I had to climb to 'there'. The local radio station was on in the background and all of a sudden I heard Joni's voice for the very first time. Down To You (Court and Spark) was on and the lyrics stopped me in my tracks. I called the station to ask who it was, and the rest is history. For a while, I used to have warm little conversations with aforementioned local DJ about Joni and life and such. Those were the days. Joni and her music were to become somewhat of a lifeline for me in years to come and whenever I need to think, her music serves me well. Somehow, I feel less alone. Not to say that I'm lonely or anything, it's just this thing about hearing shared experience through her words ... or something. I think that if you are here, you know what I mean. Well, it is indeed the 'something' that keeps me tied to Joni and her wonderful songs, and as I said, Court and Spark still holds that special place inside my heart. all in all, I feel pretty lucky to have found a space where kindred spirits can share collective thoughts and dreams of Joni. thanks again for writing, mags. - -- - --------------------------------------------------------------------- _~O / /\_, ___/\ /_ - ----------------------------------------- - --------------F0AC9C1CA81AA83C0ACB229D-- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 03 Apr 2000 09:24:12 -0600 From: Bounced Message Subject: Invitation to join Joniatpineknob From: Joniatpineknob Moderator Subject: Invitation to join Joniatpineknob Hello, This is an invitation to join the Joniatpineknob group, an email group that I moderate at eGroups, a free, easy-to-use email group service. (we are supposed to get some sort of break!) the outrage! how the hell am i supposed to toss my calvin's onstage from row Z????? how will joni and i make eye contact and share that magic moment it is our destiny to share? the one where she stops the concert to point and say: "you, with the white hair! backstage! NOW!!!" my day was ruined!!! but i got three tickets, section 2, in the afore mentioned row...i grumbled and snapped at people the rest of the day. i think my secretary is working on her letter of resignation as we speak... and then...and then i had THE most gratifying moment i have ever had as a parent, when my "all joni - all the time" programming on the cd player in my car finally paid off!! lindsay and i were just pulling into the driveway when the title track from the new cd came on. and lindsay sang it!!! to me!!! and she got the words right!!! we sat in the driveway and let the song play out. she, seeing that i was inordinately pleased, scrambled up into the front seat and i even let her but her dirty sneakers on the dash as she got herself comfy, and we started it over and sang the entire song together from beginning to end! oh my god! i thought my heart would burst! what a kid! (rebecca who?) call the estate lawyers! she's getting EVERYTHING!!! it was a wonderful end to my dreary day. suddenly row Z as in Zebra doesn't seem so bad at all! what an angel...she takes after me you know... ric ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Apr 2000 16:32:33 -0700 (PDT) From: zapuppy2@webtv.net (Penny) Subject: NY Times Heads-up! Hey y'all! As per Michael Paz's post about the Warner Bros ad campaign, I picked up a copy of The New York Times Sunday paper today. Go to the Arts & Leisure section and you'll find a quarter page ad on page 2 for the tour, as Kakki described, that also ran in the LA Times. That ad, I expected, and was the sole reason for the purchase. But Page 9 is a full page b&w ad of the tribute concert with a wonderful full length pic of our Joan looking absolutely fabulous!!!! Black (?), mid-calf, off shoulder, form-fitting but elegant dress, looking relaxed and pleased. This is the > story of how I discovered Joni. > > oh happy day, > > mags > Hi mags, & welcome! Court & Spark was also the album that turned me on to Joni & I know exactly what you mean. I felt like the woman was reading my mind & soul. I eventually bought all the back catalogue and every album released since but C&S still holds a special place in my heart even though, oddly enough, I seldom listen to it. Maybe because I played it so many times when I first got it that every syllable & note is engraved on my brain cells now so I don't have to play it anymore to hear it! It appeared Dave thought so too. Guitarpoint@aol.com properly corrects Vince, pointing out my inadequate words > "Joni was and always will be radiant. Sorry for my screwup and to the person who said that Joni was radiant all the time, yes, I agree, and I also agree that I am incapable of a two sentence post that isn't full of mistakes and offensive to those better than myself, a group too large to name, as I am clearly far beneath the par and long ago lost my prime (if I had one ever). I apologize. I'll go lurk awhile until I can learn to post better, maybe improve to being slightly semi adequate. I am tired; was a long weekend, dead tired and I woke just to tape Joni, and sorry for the post that was so inadequate. Now back to the safety of bed. +Vince ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2000 #122 ********************************* ------- Post messages to the list at Unsubscribe by sending "unsubscribe onlyjoni-digest" to ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
