I feel for you and the others over there, Jamie. It doesn't seem right that she wouldn't at least do a reprise with the London orchestra. In my wishful thinking sort of way, maybe we can dream that she is just doing the trial run here in the States to gear up for the "Grand Show" in London. Or maybe she might drop in as a guest artist on a few of those Euro dates Erskine is playing. Most of the reviews and articles on the new album coming from the U.K. are the best I've seen. She would have a hugely receptive audience there. I'm hoping for you all. I know in the past, Joni has said that her health couldn't stand the flight to Europe, but as you point out, she came here to record the wonderful album in the first place! Martin's post about which concert to fly out to in the US has set me thinking though. Maybe that's what I should do. I reckon if I booked to go to an American show Joni would be sure to announce a European tour immediately. Apparently she's not coming to the Northwest this time, either. Joni, the Benaroya Hall would be a great place for this tour! Reconsider! Pleeeaaase?! I'm going to be leaving for Denver in a couple of hours and will be gone till Tuesday. I'm going to visit my very dear friend Denny who is very sick. He has a rare bone marrow disease. His only hope is a transplant. He was in the hospital for three weeks and is home now but feeling pretty low. Please send any prayers or positive thoughts you have to spare his way. He's one of those people that I share a deep bond with. A truly gentle, loving & giving soul. My mission is to cheer him up, so wish me luck! Please don't talk about me when I'm gone..... Out here in Berkshire, the Maidenhead branch of MVC not only had 4 copies of BSN in the A-Z section under Joni Mitchell, but even featured another one on its listening post! I can only assume that they figure the *type* of music-buying person in this neck of the words might be interested in BSN. Hope you've had more luck in finding a copy today! Jason. Let's just say that the comment from 4 reviewers was "mixed" - from very appreciative to dismissive - but that nobody really clicked to the fact that Joni herself had both specifically chosen the songs and had (I'm sure) a significant creative input when it came to the treatment/arrangements/production. Also the individual tracks were criticised by a reviewer for "sounding the same" - which in my book is (in this case) moulding some pretty disparate songs in to a consistent whole. IMHO BSN's got a "feel" and "identity" to it that is very rare nowadays. Incidentally, Thomas Sutcliffe (the presenter/anchorman) described the strings as "Hollywood" which I found pretty amusing considering it's the LSO playing. Ah well.... David Mascall PS The favourable opinion came from two female reviewers. One of these said that her partner drove her to distraction by playing lots of Joni which she didn't like, but that this album had changed her opinion of Joni for the better. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Mar 2000 16:41:29 EST From: FredNow@aol.com Subject: Re: Another Both Sides Now "Kakki" wrote: >>surprised and delighted with "Songs of My Youth, Volume I".
