As for Fairport, I put a lot of their stuff on my "Volume 1" covers project which I offered up a couple months ago, and of course would be glad to share with whoever wants a copy of this CD. Matter of fact, I just made a copy for Mike C. last night...it looks like this: 1. Fairport Convention - Eastern Rain 2. Fairport Convention - Marcie 3. Fairport Convention - Chelsea Morning 4. Fairport Convention - I Don't Know Where I Stand 5. Fairport Convention - Night In The City 6. Fairport Convention - Woodstock (live) 7. Fairport Convention - Both Sides Now (live) 8. Tim Curry - Cold Blue Steel and Sweet Fire 9. Caroline Lavelle - A Case of You 10. Cleo Laine - Both Sides Now 11. Cassandra Wilson - Black Crow 12. Betty Buckley - River 13. Betty Buckley - A Case of You 14. Bonnie Raitt - That Song About The Midway 15. Holly Cole - River 16. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Woodstock (alternate version) 17. Phoebe Snow - A Case of You 18. Dan Fogelberg - Nexus (Joni on backing vocal) Like I said the other night, these covers WON'T be part of the new project, but if anyone wants to check 'em out, let me know. I think it's a great collection, and it was sorta the inspiration for me to reach out for this Volume 2 I'm working on now. Bob NP: J.B. (wrote in last summer? requesting dulcimer chords for JM's music and got many kind responses) I can relate to so many of the posts. Joni's music has been such a great source of inspiration for me for so many years. Just about fell down on my knees when first listening to Blue in 1972... I was saddened to hear of Wally's death. Felt like a friend died... Just got my sunflower seeds in the mail yesterday and look forward to the sunny tribute to Wallly in the spring/summer. Hardly know where to start... ? Guess I was one of the lucky ones-my LE of BSN was in perfect condition. It was a birthday gift from my family and they got it from our local Barnes and Noble store. Still deciding which cuts are my favorite. Would love to hear her perform with a symphony. Also- not sure if someone else responded to this strand already re Joni, Joan, and Judy. On the Baez album "Diamonds and Rust" she sings a duet with Joni called "Dida". Could that have been the start of some ill-fated project with all 3? Don't know... Will try and drop in more often... Best regards to everyone. Azeem i picked up a copy in Holburn, there's a record store at 69 Leather Lane which had quite a few in the new release section at £12.99.I love the album more than i thought i would the arrangments are great as are the vocals. The vocals reminded me of Lee Wiley in places.my fave tracks so far: Your my thrill,Comes love and At last.I'm still a bit unsure about A case of you, the vocal phrasing takes a bit of re-adjusting to.Overall it's a great joni album and in less than one week i've probably played it more times than i have T.T.T.It's a great late night album. gerry n.p. A close friend of mine showed up at my door last night with a sheepish grin and Joni's love package in his hand. I carefully opened it to examine the conents. Oh good. It's still in its holder. Carefully pry it out, not an eay thing to do. Yippee. No scratches. Open the lithos and count...1...2...3...YES. All 4 are there. OK. Now let's put it on. Go right to A Case of You. Glorious. Almost all the way through, through, through, through, through...... This is definitely not due to scratches. Definitely a manufacturing defect. And a disgrace to quality control. So. My friend was embarrassed that he thought he had given me something less than perfection. Now I need the instructions on how to send the disc back to Reprise. Could some kind soul forward that to me? Thanks. First between the ages at which puberty is attained. Second it changes when one reaches about the age of fourty BUT that depends I think more on the change in lifestyle. The last time I believe is after 55 or 60. Although Tony Bennet argues for some flexibility in this thought. Theres a basic voice quality that remains. The inflections etc. Those depend on annunciation which is related as much to the persons singing accents. The greater factor is the muscular. people simply tend to sing less as they get older and their lifestyle changes. the voice is like any other muscle. If it isnt used or if its used every day then it stays in different levels of "shape". When one allows ones voice to go unused various parts of the vocal chords get out of shape. If one tries after years of abstinence to all of a sudden go on a tour they will find that they blow their chords out. One needs to treat the singing voice like any other delicate instrument (which it is). If the breathing technique is neglected then the chords have to work too hard and or get stretched without prior exercising. Its just like someone who in high school was a top notch long distance runner. Maybe even won the state cvhampionship and then doesnt run for 10 years. That person certainly wouldnt enter a marathon out of the blue and expect to finish. Might even seriously hurt themself trying to do it. Singing is no different. Joni has simply gravitated towards the convenient. We dont know if shes doing regular exercises or not with her voice. She may or may not be. Her final factor is the smoking. No doubt smoking leaves deposits on all areas of her vocal chords. Add an extended period of non-use and she may have made it extreemly difficult for herself to regain the use of the areas of the chords that make transitioning to different registers more problematical. Take the long distance runner who takes 30 years off and tries to pick up running again. They will never get back to where they were in their youth although they can get along pretty far. It has taken me the last three months of fairly steady music practice to get back much of my my old voice since I stopped singing for some time. Ive been doing this in preparation for Pazfest 2000. Now three months into the practice project things are much better than they were when I started. But it was more work than I ever imagined. For a while there I was thinking I cant do it anymore. Im finding that not totally true. In Jonis experience she has learned to adapt the style to the reality. Sounds this way to me. Shes the same in her instrument use. She has hunkered down behind the VG-8. Is that because she can no longer play piano. I doubt it. Shes just less aggressive in using many instruments as opposed to one. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 04 Mar 2000 22:04:13 +0000 From: catman Subject: Re: 69 Leather Lane BSN was in the Peterborough Virgin today.
