For the record - I'm another one - or SWMJF as in SWMJF - isn't he? I sent them along to my mother, who was very touched, both by the fact that I remembered the song after all this time, and that the JMDL responded so quickly to my request! As it turned out, she had not been able to remember many of the words either, since it's been nearly 40 years since she sang this song with any regularity, and was doing so by memory even then, having heard it on a Sons of the Pioneers recording years earlier. However, as we say in my business, her memory is now refreshed! As she is, too, I think. I can't resist injecting some Joni Content here, however. Which song on a Joni Mitchell album is a mere one degree of separation removed from "My Grandfather's Clock"? I know, I know: this one is just *too easy*! (impish grin). I may not believe this but it is what i took her to mean. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Feb 2000 23:30:05 +0000 From: catman Subject: Re: Joni's "Devil" notes Don Rowe wrote: > Catherine, ever the s**t disturber, asks: > > > How 'bout devil moments? ;) > > > "Fuck it! Sorry it isn't more personal but there are so many of you! I've been online about 30 hours per week for the past three years & must conclude that, for the most part, it's been a monumental waste of time. I've gained 10 pounds sitting on my ass hour after hour downloading potential viruses, frivolous software with glitches & spam from strangers. I figure that maybe 10% has been meaningful or productive (connecting with a few old friends, meeting a few new friends & exchanging hard-to-find documents). But the other 90% has led to increasing frustration, addiction & depression. I lost one long-time friend in a group email dispute over politics & must say that internet chat & discussion lists have got to be the rudest phenomenon since studio wrestling! Perhaps it's because it's so instant, eliminating the time it has always taken to ponder what you've written before sending it. I'm going back to snailmail & phone calls. Email might be nice for a few things (mainly commerce) but until surfers develop a little more netiquette & hackers are a thing of the past, I will remain offline. My # is 412-835-8024 if you really want to chat. God help us face the 21st Century!
