With the recent full red moon, I thought I'd continue the menstrual thread. One Sunday afternoon, Wally Breese, my husband Steve, and I were sitting in the Caffe Trieste in North Beach, San Francisco. I said to the guys, "Hey it's Paul Kantner sitting at the next table. Why don't you ask him if he'd like to be interviewed for JM.com." Wally didn't want to intrude so I decided to eavesdrop. Kantner was holding court at the table, telling a story about how the Tampax Co. asked permission to use a Jefferson Airplane song in a TV commercial. He never indicated which song - let's not even go there with "White Rabbit." We enjoyed ourselves watching Kantner hanging out with the locals and laughing. Wow, Catman, I have just about the opposite expectation. I eagerly await BSN because, and it really gives me no pleasure whatsoever to say this, I don't think Joni is writing anywhere near as well as she once did ... I'm sorry, I know this is heresy, bordering on blasphemy. On the other hand, I think she has become a first rate jazz singer as evidenced by her performance on Herbie Hancock's album, Gershwin's World. I'd rather hear her sing some really great songs, including hers, than the unmemorable stuff she's been writing. I'm sorry ... I really am ... I feel somehow horrible for having admitted this. The thing is, this doesn't diminish my love and admiration for her earlier work in the least. In my canon, her first nine studio albums assure her place as one of the bona fide geniuses of all time. - -Fred ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Jan 2000 02:57:23 EST From: JRMCo1@aol.com Subject: CSNY 1st gig setlist (SJC) Detroit 1/24/00 Carry On Southern Man Stand And Be Counted Pre-Road Downs Heartland 49 Bye-Byes Slowpoke Marrakesh Express Faith In Me Almost Cut My Hair Cinnamon Girl intermission Helplessly Hoping Our House* Only Love Can Break Your Heart Dream For Him Someday Soon Looking Forward After The Goldrush Guinnevere Seen Enough Out Of Control Teach Your Children "7th Inning Stretch" Love The One You're With Long Time Gone Ohio For What It's Worth Down By The River Dark Star Rockin' In The Free World encores: Woodstock* Long May You Run ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2000 #34 ******************************** Don't forget about these ongoing projects: Glossary project: Send a blank message to for all the details.
