Anyway, this evening, as I was using that Swiffer thingy on the floor (neat little invention, that swiffer!), I realized that I was humming "Woman of Heart and Mind" when I found myself grabbing the handle of the Swiffer, looked at my cat sitting on the counter, and bellowed "Don't it leave you on the empty side?" The other Joni I hummed today (wasn't really humming, it was sorta caterwauling in the shower) was "Nothing Can be Done". The lines "I am not old, I'm told..." and "Don't stop, my heart....." just make me want to sing it from the rooftops. It's funny, since I don't seem to realize that I actually hum and belt out songs.... God help me the next time I am in Safeway. Hi All, Just wondering, has the issue of making the tape trees available as MP3 for list members come up before ? I'm assuming there would not be any breach of copyright issues here (as presumabley if its OK to distribute the tape trees - MP3's would be OK too). I know the philosophy behind the tape trees is that people share the production/distribution costs & there is a sort of altruistic 'community service' (for want of a better description) in this. But to be honest i'm a little bit hazy on how the whole tape tree thing works. Could that philosopy be carried over to the MP3 format?. E.g. one of the major costs might be hosting and bandwidth (as each song would take uo 2-3MB). Could this be shared out in the same way ? I'm self employed at my own web company and could do this - say for 1 tape - maybe 100MB. I'd be happy to do it on a community basis for JMDL list members (but maybe not the whole internet!). And I was trying to come up with "roles" she hasn't really written for 'herself.' I think the only song in which she takes on the role of someone who's poor is Raised on Robbery. And I could only come up with 2 songs where she's 'the other woman' - Conversation and Off Night Backstreet. She's also never 'played' a woman who's a victim of abuse. (remember third person doesn't count here...) And finally, she's portrayed a woman who's younger, but I don't think she's ever been older than her real age in any of her songs. What about other 'roles'? And am I not thinking of songs that fit the above descriptions? I'm in London and have seen some HDCDs about but mainly they're normal cds with a black sticker on the front. I have had the cheek to open one up and they are exactly the same as normal cds. At the mo Tower Recs in Lond have got STAS in new packaging etc but when I bought it I found that it was exactly the same cd that I had got all those years ago. Only the booklet was changed. I will wwait till Christmas when they usually bring out their imports to get it on HDCD. I returned the STAS and replaced it with Tom Waits' Blue Valentines instead, which I have only on record but no record player. I wish that CD now would do more HDCDs. Especially of STAS. I have heard on the grape that the quality is amazing. The cd that I bought was exactly the same. Made in Germany with the long code. I belive that most HDCDs have a shorter code to them. is this the only way we can check without resorting to peeling back the plastic? Would like some American input please. Whatever makes you YAHOO! I really feel that she has brought me out of moods of despair more times than I can count. What a godsend she is to complex, intelligent citizens of the latter 20th century! Though she hasn't been a "mainstream" recording artist for many years, I respect her tenacity in continuing to produce beautiful lyrics and music that sustain me and others in the rigororous process known as "life".
