[Mark Domyancich > To the guitar novice- If wanting to play in open tunings, I'd start with songs like Big Yellow Taxi and Both Sides Now. There are lots of "plain" barre chords and you can fudge much of the rest of the parts that sound a bit intricate by just sticking with with those barres and holding on to them longer. Both of these can be strummed, too. Another starter would be The Circle Game. Terry ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Sep 1999 10:10:31 -0700 From: "P. I could never afford it. as a performer of Joni's music myself I would love to see what her music has done in the souls of people like marian, catgirl and terry, the top three on my personal curiosity list, among *many* others. having had the unique pleasure of having Joni herself in my audience on many occasions, (she actually liked my sets) I know that, to her, performing is as important an art form as songwriting or painting and I think anyone who's ever seen her perform would agree. ...and she just as much enjoyed kicking back and digging someone else's jams and I'm sure she'd love to hear/see these tapes if we sent them to her. btw, IMHO it would be a good idea if we all carried this on... unless trading, that is... whenever you get a tape tree, etc., that takes 3 or more units (VHS, audio, cd) just send an extra blank... then those could be sent to a central person and used for fundraisers/gifts/prizes on the list. just an idea... :o) pat NP: hey miss lonely - shawn philips http://members.wbs.net/homepages/b/a/d/badwolff.html Angelfire for your free web-based e-mail. http://www.angelfire.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Sep 1999 14:45:48 EDT From: AzeemAK@aol.com Subject: PWWAM Having only watched PWWAM for the first time quite recently, my thoughts are mixed: 1. It's fabulous to look at, and everybody looks to be enjoying themselves 2. The sound is generally very good. 3. Joni sounds as though she's hitting all the notes, although I felt she was either undersinging or mixed too far down, which is odd considering she is responsible for the mix. The timbre and colour in her voice are fine, but it sounds, for much of the first half, as if she hasn't got the power she used to have. 4. Everything changes when she takes off the guitar! Her singing sounds twice as confident and powerful, leading me to wonder whether the effort and concentration required of her extremely deft and complex playing is not detracting from her singing. Does anyone else see/hear it like that? 5. The bit where she takes off her shoes and dances barefoot with her backing singer is delightful and sexy. My two penn'orth Azeem NP: Candidate, one of the extra tracks on Diamond Dogs, which has just been re-issued YET AGAIN! Someone is taking the piss here, especially as, according to our very own Martin Giles, 24 bit mastering will not sound different to ordinary 16 bit for the vast majority of listeners. I'm not buying the bloody things again, I've already got all of his 70s albums on vinyl and CD ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Sep 1999 12:18:48 -0700 From: "Kakki" Subject: Re: PWWAM Azeem wrote: > 3. I think the fact that she was extremely sick the week before the taping with flu/allergies, plus coming off the West Coast tour, affected the strength of her voice. > 4. Does anyone else see/hear it like that? I see it that way, too. Not being burdened by it, she could concentrate more on the singing performance. Nice to see you back around, Azeem! This item did come out on a Japanese Import and I think it is terrible that you are trying to make money off of Joni Mitchell's music. SHAME ON YOU!! Debi now to all of you............ now I just want to know who do I go to besides eBay support to get this guy shut down. Is there an addy for reprise or ascap? This has got to stop! Now listening to it I have come to appreciate it for the "loungey" quality... While listening I am suddenly transported back to the 70s in a smokey lounge in a big fat sofa and I am sitting in the crowd in this lounge, and this beautiful woman is singing beautiful music before my very eyes and ears... sorry I forgot where I was! Anyway, it's interesting how a different perspective creates a different listening experience. Anyone else ever feel something like this? Coming out of the shadows momentarily to comment on this. The bad thing is is that eBay allows the sell of bootlegs and there is little one can do to stop it. Numerous petitions have been written to eBay but nothing has been done. ___________________________________ | Mark Domyancich | | Harpua@revealed.net | | http://home.revealed.net/Harpua | |_________________________________| > And then I wrote...... >> > I have the CD-R's that were GIVEN to me from a friend.
