Looks now like Floyd is headed right for us, but these storms always turn to the north and miss us, giving us the weaker back of their hand. Besides, if you live 8 miles inland and on what little high ground there is in Northeast Florida, you needn't worry about the storm surge, which is the biggest danger. The only thing to worry about, instead, is the occasional strong wind or hurricane-spawned tornado, but I ain't skeered of 'em. Let 'em just try and .... WHA? AAHH... AAAHHHHHHHH........ AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH........ Hi, folks, I've always wanted to visit Kansas again! Paul I - ------------------------------ Hi you guys! Well, it's comforting to know that I'm not the only one on here sweating it out here in Florida! Somebody (I think his name was Jerry) posted something about St. Petersburg and I wondered if he meant in FL ... am I right? I live on a barrier island right off of Florida on the Gulf Coast side (thank God!) and we're not expecting too much from Floyd. Just a lot of wind and some rain. It's closing in on 3 am early Wednesday morning and its looking pretty good for most of Florida ... keep your fingers crossed, okay? It's pretty scary stuff when you see the size of this storm and if it had hit just right, it could have practically eaten up the whole state of Florida! I hate this part of living here in paradise. It takes a lot of the appeal away and just chucks it out to sea. Still beats living in the cold, though :~) On another topic, I was glad for Bob's and others comments standing up for the 50+ year old women. I thought it was pretty ironic since Joni's in her 50s and looking great! Let's not forget Tina Turner, Stevie Nicks, Diane Sawyer, Debbie Harry from Blondie, Bonnie Raitt and the list goes on and on. I'm a big believer in the concept of "if you think you're old, you'll be old!" Let's face it, we will all be "old" one day so why rush it. The reality is that we have more knowledge and technology today than we ever did and people are starting to live much longer lives than they used to. Unfortunately, we live in an extremely age oriented society and we get caught up in worrying about what other people think and believing that we're old because of someone elses's perception instead of our own. Boy, did I go off on a tangent ... you must have struck a chord in me! Obviously, I feel pretty strongly about that one because it was and still is a fear of mine. I'm 40 years old and after years of working in the music business watching everybody else do what I wanted too be doing, I'm just starting to follow my heart and pursue a career in music. It's pretty scary because the music biz is definately caught up in age stuff unless you're already established and even then, the media will probably call you names like the "dinosaurs of rock", etc. Most people don't believe me when I tell them I'm 40 because I look more like I'm somewhere around 30ish and I really feel more like that age than whatever 40 is supposed to feel like ... you see age really is just a number and we put WAY too much weight into it! Enough babbling ... I'm going to get off my soap box now :~) and hit the hay! I hope everybody else here in FL - Jerry, Pearl, Paul, Bev and all - are doing okay and that Floyd and Gert stay as far away as possible. Be sure to keep you, your loved ones and your furry friends safe and out of harm's way! Is the "Little Green" story compelling enough to be more than 'made-for-tv' fair? If anything I can envision a motion picture capturing the times and intertwining the lives of Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and David Crosby. The title could be "Helplessly Hoping" why that title? Because it could be the story that deals with their hardships and liabilities and how they pursued their brilliant careers in spite of them. Wouldn't the soundtrack be stupendous? If Oliver Stone could work "The Doors" into something respectable, certainly someone like Jim Jaramasch could do so and much more creatively... The actors would have to be bigger than life and at the same time good, if not the whole thing would be cheezzzy. I could see Sean Penn as Crosby, not so much the way he looks, but he could pull. I never stated that anybody was "too" anything. As I said with my last post, the uncomforting thing (in a sense) is that I could theoretically be interested in one of my Mother's friends, or one of my Dad's potential dates. This is a thought that while it doesn't "make my skin crawl", is an uncomfortable thought. It is an uncomfortable thought not because the person is "too old", or "too" anything, but rather that it's my parents. Considering that the interpersonal dynamics and relationships between parent and children are often already complex and messy at best, this may not help matters. This doesn't mean that I wouldn't consider pursuing such a relationship should it arise, however. I myself am against the labeling thing- at least the negative labeling, and often times in the supposed positive sense too. For a small example, The Breakfast Club is one of my favorite movies, which even though it's more about stereotypes, has implied focus on labeling, IMO. I'd be happy to continue to elaborate on thoughts on labeling, stereotypes, bias, etc... should you or anyone else care to hear them. Please let me know.
