Are you going to put that pix on the website?? How much are they > going to run? Do I ask too many questions? Michael can 'splain this much better than me, but this new Parker is still "in process" as an even lighter weight guitar for Joni. I got a little Joni "wow" moment when the manager brought out the guitar case that had a piece of masking tape on it with "Joni" written on it. This guitar is so incredibly light that it didn't feel like I was holding anything and it's like the fretboard and the strings are just sort of materializing alone without any body. Talk about "air guitar"! Michael and the guys at Parker chattered about a bunch of techno stuff that I didn't understand. But it was very cool to check out those new age guitars. Hopefully we can get a pic up on the website. One of my favorite Hedges tunings (he used it for Rickover's Dream) is CGDGBC. As far as I know, Joni never used this tuning right? Also, live he was remarkable. Before his "Live on the Double Planet" CD came out, I saw him at a local club. by the end of the evening, the audience was standing on chairs and tables, singing "Come Together." One of the best concert moments I've ever experienced. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Sep 1999 20:41:06 +0100 From: Jason Maloney Subject: My TAKE on STAS Thanks to all who have so far responded so positively to my enquiries about how to best enjoy STAS, Clouds and Mingus. Keep 'em coming! :-) This afternoon, I listened to STAS for the first time ever. I was not familar with any of the 10 songs (unlike Clouds, with Chelsea Morning, Both Sides Now etc). My instinctive reaction is "yes! love it!", but that is hardly a considered and well-articulated comment ;-) To a child of the 80s, it does indeed sound very...well, 60s :o) Echos of Simon & Garfunkel to these ears, though more in overall mood and sound than anything. The musicologists (sp???) among you can probably explain to me the "difference" in the sound of the chords/keys she uses on several of the tracks compared with post-LOTC Joni...especially I Had A King, Michael, and Nathan La Franeer. It's not what I am used to hearing from her, but I really liked it. I'm thinking they're "minor" chords and keys, but I expect that's not the right term. Song To A Seagull (the song) certainly gives the strongest hint as to what was to follow in the future. Jason. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Sep 1999 11:09:47 +1200 From: "Helen M. I'm a bit late responding to this, but what the hell! This brought back a memory of a music teacher I had when I was about 13 (Father Head) who let one person each class play a song for the rest. I remember there was a lot of teeny-bopper "pop" music - I can't remember specifics, but I do remember I chose "Dancing Barefoot" by The Patti Smith Group - this was my idea of rebellious, un-mainstream music. Actually it probably was, and since this was in my pre-Joni days, it could have been a lot worse (since I still owned the album "Tragedy" by the BeeGees)!
