I kept it anyway, and played it over the skips so many times that it doesnt skip anymore! This was my first JM CD-i bought it after hearing "Circle Game" played on "Party of Five" when the kids were visiting their parents grave. I remembered loving that song when I was growing up and ran out to the nearest "Strawberries" music store to find it on anything. But it was "Hejira" and "Song to sharon" that got to me, made me think and made me feel connected to Joni. I shudder to think that I may never have made that connection if I bought a copy that didn't have both songs! - -JENNY CT ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Aug 1999 15:02:57 GMT From: "Catherine McKay" Subject: Re: Sic Isn't it "ply the fire with kindling?" >From: Brian Gross >To: Catherine McKay , catman@ethericcats.demon.co.uk >CC: joni@smoe.org >Subject: Re: Sic >Date: Thu, 19 Aug 1999 11:21:05 -0700 (PDT) > >---Catherine McKay wrote: > > > > I have no idea where the "sic" as is "Sic her, Rover" comes from, but it > > might be interesting to check it out. > >Maybe from the same place that "apply" as in "apply the fire with kindling" >came from in the printed lyrics to "Urge for Going" (which I understand has >recently been selected as the national theme song for EPSOA [Enlarged >Prostate >Sufferers Of America] ;-) > > Brian >=== >"No paper thin walls > No folks above > No one else can hear the crazy cries of love" > > > >yeah, right >_________________________________________________________ >DO YOU YAHOO!? >Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com > cateri@hotmail.com ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Aug 1999 11:13:16 -0400 From: Linda Worster Subject: lurker birthdays De-lurking...Linda here to say to Bob, who celebrated: >Happy Birthday also to all you lurkers out there who are having birthdays >this week. I REALLY agree with this! The new CD by Essra and Tim Drummond is a VERY STRONG collection of songs. It features GREAT backing by folks like Spooner Oldham, Dean Parks, Johnny Neel, Jack Pearson, Steve Gurr, Mac Gayden and a cast of thousands . . . . . Unfortunately (to my knowledge, anyway!), Essra's big mouth have blocked the album release for a year now . . . . . Tim and Essra couldn't solve certain problems regarding the album, so Cherry Street Records have had the CD on hold for a very long time! Does anyone know if the album is actually released now? He calls himself a late bloomer, but the truth is he's been making great music for quite a while. Since 1980 over 60 of his songs have appeared on major label releases by artists like Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman, Levon Helm, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Joe Cocker, Stray Cats, Susan Ashton, Shawn Colvin and several others! Tom's been called "a singer's singer and a writer's writer" by several giants in the music business and the new album features guests like Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch, Jerry Douglas and The Farfield Four. I saw her once do a show in an auditorium in Germantown during that time, where she came on stage pretty polluted. But that didn't seem to detract from her music, though. I even still have a vinyl copy of her 1970 lp 'Primordial Lovers', mostly because of my favorite song of hers from that era, 'Thunder in the Morning'. I listened to Joni's 'Woodstock' from LOTC today in work, and it struck me as being different from everything else Joni had done up to that point. Mind you, I'm not a musician in any way, but the main instrument in that original rendition of Woodstock seems to be an organ or electric piano. The credits on the album don't mention either of these instruments. But more importantly, the style of this unnamed instrument is strikingly similar to the music on Primordial Lovers. For those who will be there, I will bring the lp to Ashara's for closer examination by those who know their stuff (music-wise) OH MY GOD ! There really is a connection between Joni and Essra. Being somewhat anal, my lps are in alphabetical order in the bottom of the wall unit. And Mitchell is immediately followed by Mohawk.
