My friend was the manager of a record store at the time, and he gave me the poster, and he also opened the only copy of NRH they had and played it once so that he could give it to me and write it off as a store promo copy. The poster is actually quite nice, with Joni wrapped up in this gold colored blanket. It has gotten all ripped and warped and wrinkled from all the moving I have done since then and I would kill for another Joni poster to frame. They are merely excerpted stories she told while introducing other songs -- I think My American Skirt was an intro to "Fiddle and the Drum." Thought #2: While I enjoyed all the discussion over the weekend about STAS and "I Had A King", nobody mentioned that the song certainly seems to be about her breakup with Chuck. I guess it's so obvious it hardly seems worth a mention. Pat, you have some insight on this one don't you? After all, this song wasn't part of her coffeehouse repertoire, and all of a sudden, it comes out of left field as a result of her relationship with Chuck. And Joni's use of the color brown ("lately he's taken to painting the pastel walls brown") is indeed a good choice. I read a while back that psychologists put a pile of crayons in front of kids and asked them to each pick crayons to color with, one at a time. In EVERY instance, guess which color was picked last? Brown. Thought #3: Since my computer was on the fritz this weekend, I was able to start & complete David Sedaris' book "Naked". I went to Sanderson High School with David, so a lot of his stories about Capitol Towers, North Hills Country Club, the K&W Cafeteria, etc. rang especially true with me. I used to work in a little sporting goods store in North Hills mall and used to eat at the K&W all the time. Anyway, thanks to all who recommended the book, it was laugh-out-loud funny and sometimes very sad as well. There was even a Joni-mention in the book when he's peddling his quadraplegic friend around in a wheelchair and they discover they can shoplift all they want because nobody wants to look at a person in a wheelchair, he talks about stealing a Joni Mitchell album...
