I'm sure Joni had all of these things in mind when she was writing "the trampeled moon" since she is always painting with words. By the way check out the new stamp today. A footprint on the moon. Jose is a percussionist from Puerto Rico and he's never heard of nor heard the music of Joni Mitchell. As I just received the VHS copy of "Shadows & Light" I decided this was the perfect after dinner treat. To say that he was blown away is an understatement. Imagine the impact of Joni along with Jaco, Pat Methany, et al. I asked what this experience was like and he replied, "Captivating!" The next video scheduled is "Painting With Words & Music." And I reply: Joni got another mention in Entertainment Weekly. In a box titled 'If You Like...' is this item: (If you like) Sarah McLachlan's 'Mirrorball', then reflect on Joni Mitchell's 'Shadows and Light' (Asylum, 1980), a shimmering live collection that captures Mitchell (and an all-star band) at a musical peak. John Hall's ( of Orleans fame and a great artist on his own ) company just released an interesting album : Jonell Mosser - So Like Joy ( Siren Songs ) The album features twelve new, original songs by Jonell + John and Johanna Hall. The backing is provided by John ( of course! ), Tony Levin, Rob Leon, Ken Blevins, Warren Bernhardt, Larry and Lance Hoppen and others. John Hall also produced the album, but what really stands out is Jonell's voice! Jonell has been a well kept secret in the U.S. music business for years, but this will have to change with this remarkable new album. She has sung in the studio with people like Etta James, Rodney Crowell, Patti Smyth, Vince Gill, Waylon Jennings and several others. She apperared on the soundtracks to "Hope Floats", "Boys On The Side" and "Look Who's Talking Now" and this is what Don Was said about her : "One of the greatest singers in the world, with a direct link from heart to larynx". Her first album was a tribute to the late Townes Van Zandt called "Around Townes" on the Winter Harvest label. The new album "So Like Joy" is beautifully written and brilliantly performed! Copies are available from : Siren Songs PO Box 912 Saugerties NY 12477 U.S.A. Website: http://www.sirensongs.com Email: mail@sirensongs.com Beautiful songs by a great voice! I read > my > emails backwards, just to be different...and who gives a )(*&@#$) > about > punctuation. How snobby do you really have to be to live? I don't think it was waste of time. Many valid points were said about the Larry/Joni relationship and how 80's (might have) affected Joni's music. I don't think anyone imagined the thread to end in any kind of consensus about the album. I found the "get a life" post very irritating. I would have replied to it if someone hadn't beat me to it. When someone steps in and practically nullifies everything that was said up til then and drags the conversation (back) to name-calling ("stink bombs") and does it in a very immature way, it deserves a reply that it got - not snobby at all. - --jussi ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Jul 1999 19:48:39 -0600 From: Bounced Message Subject: Joni Mitchell From: "John Metcalfe" Date: Sun, 18 Jul 1999 10:54:19 +1000 My daughter is doing a school assignment on the use of satire in portraying man's relationship with nature.
