When the guy finally came back on he said it was done by some guy and a somen names Sherry Barnett. does anyone know anything about this? I was just in the JMDL website and as I scrolled down, I saw the name above. Is she one in the same person? I only got to hear the tail end of the song but it sounded very euphoric. I would love to get the CD of it especilly if there are a few Joni covers on it! The songbook I think you might be referring to is "Joni Mitchell Songbook-Complete volume number 1 (1966-1970). It was published by Warner Brothers Publications, Inc. I bought mine at the original cover price of $8.95. I am sure it long out of print, but you might try contacting them directly. You might find this kinda thing on ebay. By the way, everybody, the new songbook for TTT is finally available. As some of you already know, one of my jobs is in music sales. I can buy TTT for $11.97 + freight. I propose that anyone who wants a copy, I will be happy to get for you at cost, provided you make a separate check in the amount of $8.00 made out to Wally Breese (for operational costs of the page and his health bills). I ordered 3 copies last week and I will be happy to share them with you guys. I will let you know later this week what the freight charges are. Have a great weekend everyone! I have the summer off staring May 31 and I'm looking for one little project which doesn't involve kids or the house and the garden. If someone has already made mention of this, please forgive the redundancy. I haven't seen the ASCAP photo and probably won't go out of my way to do so. However, don't you think it would be very ironic for Joni to have had a face lift so soon after recording and releasing, "Face Lift"? Makes me wonder if she wasn't responding to another of her mother's suggestions about her appearance when she wrote/sang, For God's sake! I know I've seen this photo before and it hasn't been recently. I even went so far as to dig through some old Joni articles I have put away, but couldn't find it. I really wish I could reference it, but I can't, and I know I've seen it before, so I think the photo is at least a couple of years or more old. WallyK ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 May 99 18:23:44 -0700 From: Wally Breese Subject: ASCAP photo & essay, PWWAM, & 1969 live Hey everyone, Here's a few matters that I've been meaning to talk about, but keep forgetting to- The photo of Joni on the ASCAP site that many of you say looks as if she's had a facelift was heavily airbrushed; that's why it doesn't truly look like her. It's the photo that's had the lift though, not our Joan. Plus the shots are taken from very close-up and weird angles. All of Paul Starr's photos seem to be in this unusual style. Have a look at these 4 shots (they're in color): http://www.jonimitchell.com/TTTInConcertPt2A.html The person who wrote the glowing essay about Joni on the ASCAP site was a gentleman named Randall Grimmett. I found this info in the credits in the back of the program from the Pop Music Awards, as the essay is also published there. Now I'm sure that Kakki could've done a good job, too. But as she posted previously, she didn't write this. In the introduction to Joni's live video PWWAM, when Pearl, Dan and I are seen in her gallery looking at the painting used on the cover of the album Turbulent Indigo, we say: Dan: Looking at it up close is really like looking at a Van Gogh or something. Wally: It really is! That's it! My one line. 8-) Catgirl and other list members have recently mentioned the album that would've been Joni's first live release. This was in 1969 and it would not have been her second album, but her third, as it was recorded after the Clouds album. The live record was to follow C into stores, but Joni entered a period of intense creativity, and instead decided to put out a studio album of all new songs- Ladies Of The Canyon. What do you think?>> - -------------------------------- Wally, as good as this sounds, it gets into a whole other area, and I think it might be very confusing. The raffles are meant to be free giveaways, donated (hopefully) by the JMDL community. I wasn't planning on doing an "auction" during the Jonifest, because, frankly, we have a lot planned already. If someone wants to take this over, however, and do something with it, go right ahead. If non-US people could just send the money via Western Union, that may really be the best way. The office isn't far from here, I can turn it around and write a check right away, and it is easy and fast. Most importantly, Wally will get the money right away. If you do choose to send it via Western Union, just e-mail me the transaction number. That's all there is to it. A reminder for anyone that wants to send a check: Please make the check payable to Wally Breese, and send to: Ashara Stansfield P.O. Box 215 Topsfield, MA 01983 I've already received e-mails from several people that have already contributed saying that their check was only the "first installment", and they are planning on contributing again when they can. All I can say, is that it constantly amazes me to see what a generous, thoughtful, caring FAMILY this is. I am so proud to be connected with a loving community that really bands together like this. (I guess that's why I am confident enough in this community to host a second "family reunion" for a bunch of Joni-lovers, most of which I have never even met before!) Thank you from the bottom of my heart. My friends were amazed at my excitment when they found out that joni wasn't going to be there...I got the "what's the big deal" "as if u'd get so excited about a tribute concert" - but basically this is as close as I'm probably ever going to get, so why not be happy. I know I'll probably be annoyed at the way some of the singers are going to change the joni-ness of some songs, but even just being around a crowd a people that obviously have the same passion for joni as I do...just the thought excites me. SO, who's going out of you Aussie listers?? Anyone know anything about the singers doing the concert? and by the way - for those of you who may not know - that no. on the web site for the concert venue is incorrect - but The Basement is listed in the yellow pages YAY I'll be sure to give you all a full report about the concert happy thoughts from ange ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 May 1999 19:16:35 -0700 From: "Kakki" Subject: Re: ASCAP photo & essay, PWWAM, & 1969 live Wally wrote: > The photo of Joni on the ASCAP site that many of you say looks as if > she's had a facelift was heavily airbrushed; that's why it doesn't truly > look like her. He did such great work with her make-up for the video - wish I could hire him myself in lieu of any needed facial "enhancement" in the future ;-) > The person who wrote the glowing essay about Joni on the ASCAP site > was a gentleman named Randall Grimmett. Wow - I've seen his name associated with songwriter workshops in the past. I see from the ASCAP site that he is also in charge of ASCAP membership for L.A. What a great writer he is! Kakki ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 May 1999 20:58:29 -0600 From: Bounced Message Subject: Stormy Weather & Paula Cole From: mann@chicagonet.net Date: Sun, 23 May 1999 09:06:31 -0500 I really like Paula Cole alot and Sandra doing Is That All There Is kills me. Michael, I found that my favorite song on the Stormy Weather CD is Paula Cole. Her singing on "You've Changed" just blows me away ....and I'm not a big Paula Cole fan. But after this I dug out the Paula Cole CD my husband had bought for himself and gave it a serious listen! Also took me a long time to get Stormy Weather. I spent hours on the phone and got no where, including phone numbers I got from people on the list who claimed to have gotten there copy from. I did finally find someone who knew what I was talking about but told me it was only being distributed in certain parts of the country and if I wasn't on the list I could not obtain one. I hit a wall every call I made. Finally, in desperation, and expecting nothing, I emailed AT&T........an email to a person whose name appears on our billing. I never got a reply so gave up getting one thru AT&T but a month later a brand new CD turned up in my mailbox! It is a great CD to hear all these ladies singing these great songs with a big orchestra in the background. For me, this Stormy Weather and David Lahm's CDs are the most exciting finds this year! In regards to Jazz Takes on Joni MItchell ...Is it only me or do others feel........there are times I want to hear music but don't want words to it. Just music. Now I am not saying that's that's the ONLY reason I like David Lahm's new album. It of course is just a small part of it. But I am thrilled that when I'm in the MUSIC ONLY mode I can hear Joni's music ONLY without lyrics and a new twist on them on this new CD. Laura ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 May 1999 20:59:16 -0600 From: Bounced Message Subject: Joni Facelift and Sophia Loren From: mann@chicagonet.net Date: Sun, 23 May 1999 08:28:13 -0500 I personally don't think Joni's gotten a faclift. I think she rather enjoys her wrinkles and aging process. She doesn't seem like a woman that can't be seen without her make-up or would subject herself to surgery for something deemed so vain. Anyone seen the latest issue of People magazine with Sophia on the cover? That woman is 64 and claims to have never had a facelift. My mother, who played alot of clarinet and saxophone when she was younger, claimed that it kept her tummy flat. Said the act of "playing the instruments" (blowing in them and sucking in air) moving her diaphram up and down kept her muscles tight and her tummy in shape. Could the act of singing have the same effect on the facial muscles? I would think it does give one's face a good workout. I also used to own a book with exercises given to flight attendants that have said to improve your smile one should exercise the jaw by saying the vowels, AEIOU, in a very exaggerated way (opening your mouth wide and really stretching the muscles as you say each letter).
