In fact the SoCal serenading squad and our visiting Darice were discussing this tonight over some Guinesses and Harps. The world would no longer go around if everyone believed and followed exactly the same thing. If that happened we would cease to be unique souls and would become mere robots, devoid of any liveliness, creativity or spark. I cherish the differences - I'd be a numbed fool not to. Kakki P.S. We all drooled over the Diltz photos - just incredible - Joni, Joni and Graham, Neil, The Doors, Jimi, CSN and more right up close and beautiful. We were ready and the spirit was more than willing to go into more Joni debt but the prices are still a little out of our league - ah well, if I won the Lottery I would have snapped them all up! Jerry np: Hits ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 May 1999 09:00:24 -0700 From: Ken Corral Subject: SoCal Get-Together and Paradigm Hi Folks, We had a very enjoyable time last night in Southern California. After taking in an exhibit of Henry Diltz photographs, we repaired to Muldoon's Pub in Newport Beach for some reflections on the list and socializing. List member Steve Dulson and his wife Michelle had played this pub as recently as St. Patrick's day. We had an interesting discussion about the life of Internet lists generally, and this one in particular. As long time list members, most of whom have had significant periods of lurking, we've watched it ebb and flow, flare up and die back down and go through a whole lot of changes....The list seems to be going through a rough patch right now. I want to put in a BIG plug for civility! Thanks to Darice, Clark, Kakki, Steve and Michelle. I finished up by popping in a "Hissing of Summer Lawns" demo tape, which includes this really lively version of "Dreamland", getting on Pacific Coast Highway and heading north. And now, moving from the sublime to the ridiculous: There is s very brief Joni mention in today's L.A. Times Calendar section. In a piece on an upcoming made-for-TV movie starring Diana Ross and Brandy, Joni is referred to in connection with the film's plot. The basic plot deals with a mother who makes a decision to leave her child and eventually has a wildly successful singing career. Here is the relevant portion: "They knew she [Ross] had a soft spot for anything involving children, and also knew she was intrigued by the issue of child abandonment. Recent revelations by celebrities such as Joni Mitchell, who gave up a daughter for adoption when she was young and struggling, added a convenient newsy spin, Meron acknowledged, but were not the source of the movie. If anything, Meron said, the Mitchell saga only proved 'what a paradigm' the basic plot line was." Take care, Ken Corral ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 May 1999 13:57:00 -0600 From: Today in Joni History Subject: Today in Joni History - May 16 1998: Joni, Bob Dylan, and Van Morrison perform in George, Washington at The Gorge Amphitheater - the first night of two in a row at this venue. I found the ones in the Joni Mitchell section to be going for the highest prices so tried searches on some of the other artists like Paula Cole, Bjork, Sheryl Crow, Trisha Yearwood, etc. There were especially a lot on the Bjork page last I checked - and the prices are lower. (I bid on one through the Bjork page and immediately got an e-mail inviting me to join the Bjork Discussion List ;-D ) A list buddy ultimately sent me one as a gift and I have not had it out of the changer.
