I too had the privilege and honor to see Joni face to face. And yes, she does glow. I believe that part of the glow was the result of the devout fans in the audience, a kind of osmosis of love and adoration from her fans... My comment is that I feel that wrinkles add to the beauty of a face. I didn't notice any wrinkles on Joni's face, she can only be more beautiful with the addition of wrinkles. These last few days I've replayed this line from "Sex Kills" in my head: "Little kids packin' guns to school..." If anything good can come from the Colorado tragedy it's opening the door to discussion. The Chinese think that crisis provides opportunity. It's time for a long and hard look at priorities. What price do we pay when both parents are working full time and when they are home they are too busy to notice what's going on in the lives of their children? Can we talk? I remember most of it still. She started with This Flight Tonight and then lots of new songs from For The Roses, 7 months before it's release. I was enthralled by the long talks between songs and her great sense of humor in coping with sound problems. Later that summer I saw her again, taping a show in the BBC. Then it was back to the south bank for Sandy Denny's first show after leaving the Fairports. Those were the days. (SJC) Hi Jonilistas! I miss you all very much though I do try to check in on you from time to time. I thought of you today as I was looking at my Joni "Friends of animals" poster I got while at Julie Z's party last year. Beside it, I have a calandar filled with Georgia O'Keefe paintings. It's becoming my "Joni wall." On the other side of the wall is my husband's Star Trek poster, calandar, and clock. The room is a tribute to our unique individualities. I tried to explain Joni to someone who never heard of her last week. I described her as an artist and a poet as well as a musician and songwriter. The person told me about a book of poetry the singer Jewell had published recently. I had to let her know who the "originator" was. I really peaked her interest because she truly was not aware that this had been done before. I really would like to read Jewell's poetry. I don't want to compare her to Joni because that wouldn't be fair. Joni is and always will be, in a class by herself. I'm not sure if I am historically correct by calling Joni "the originator," but I know she's pretty darn close! On a personal note, I'd like to say that I've been shamefully self-absorbed with my career as well as my personal life. I'm doing fine now, but I had a few minor set backs earlier this year. In January, I thought I was having a heart attack and had to be admitted into the hospital for several days. What I had was an ulcer on my esophagus which gave me heart attack symptoms. I also learned that I do have the beginnings of artheriosclerosis after having a heart catherization done . Pretty much scared the crap out of me! It's just a small blockage in one artery; I'm not even on medication. So now I'm "attempting" to exercise to my Tae-Bo tape semi-regularly. Apparently this is hereditary as I neither drink or smoke. I had none of the "factors" as my doctor put it. Their first signal that something was wrong was when the nitro "worked" in the emergency room. This, apparently, was not a good sign, even though I kept insisting it was "gas." Shortly after that, the bloodletting began. Taking nitro, by the way, is akin to be cracked in the head, full-force, with a baseball bat! Nasty stuff! Anyway guys, I miss you and hope everyone is doing well. Love to you all!
