Hi Alan: If I were you, I would grab the chance to see Laura as the Duo in Canmore, as it will be a long, long time before she is in Canada with the full band. The exchange rate just kills the offers and it's getting harder and harder to send Laura to Canada at all. We'd love to all come up, but need a major offer from the bigger festivals like Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, etc. LL Band performed a few years ago at Edmonton, so probably won't be invited back for a few more years. And anyway, the Laura Love Duo is pretty darn awesome! Jen Todd is a member of the LL Band and she is a fantastic performer/singer/guitarist in her own right. When the performance is distilled down to the LL Duo, you really get to hear Jen strut her stuff, which is mighty mighty. The two of them together are still soulful, still powerful, and still rockin' even just the two of them! And you can really understand the words. So anyway, if you have that weekend open, drop on by. I think you'll be happy you did. Of course, I'm a bit invested in all of this, so others out there in Octoroon land, do you have a recommendation as to whether Alan should take in the LL Duo or wait for the Band? Mary McFaul (Laura's manager) P.S. we just got back from the Oregon Country Fair outside of Eugene. I first discovered Laura with the full band at a Music in the Park event in Olympia, Washington. I was knocked onto my feet with the entire performance. Sometime later I heard them again in Olympia in, of all places, a high school gym. She and Jo Miller performed, which is was a hearing experience I'll never forget. The melodies, the voices, the interpretations, the total commitment to each persons musical expertise was a joy to watch and hear. And, the audio control in that gym was the best I've ever heard: I was again completely amazed because I could hear the voices and the instruments in this big, wooden structure. I agree, the Duo would be a wonderful experience. They are incredible vocalists and musicians. Just wishing they could perform closer to home, and always in the smaller, more intimate environments.
