I am ashamed to admit that I forgot all about the release of 14 Days. I was reminded when the friend that takes care of my dogs while I'm away said she picked up a copy. Apparently the only copy in Charlotte. I could wait till Bele Chere and pick one up there...or make a copy of the friends CD. The truth is I can't wait so I made a copy. Not to worry Mary I will purchase one at the Fest. I did see LL at Merle Fest and did like "Sometime Davy Wins" and "I Am Going To Miss You." I don't have the linear notes but I did read the friends copy. I am so pleased that Laura found her Mom. I am assuming that the '5 years' referred to in the song was probation, not prison time. I have a hard time envisioning LL spending time with the mother stabbers and father rapers. I had a similar experience in my younger day that I'll have to tell her about. I can laugh about it now. At the time it was no fun sitting on the group W bench. I suspect there are a few others out there with a similar tale to tell. I was never a Laura Nyro fan but I seem to remember The 5th Dimension doing that song. I love LL's rendition. Not having the linear notes, I couldn't tell you what Way Off The Hook is all about. My guess is like with a few other LL songs. Just putting goofy stuff together. Like what the heck does Shum Ticky mean? But I like it! I have only listened twice. Once when it was copied and I was packing again and once in the car. So far I like it and the two that stick in my mind are Sativa (so catchy) and Way off the Hook. I love some things unconditionally but music is not one of them. Some of my favorite artists have put out (in my opinion) junk and I trade the CD in. I still like their other stuff and may like their future stuff. I guess when it comes to money (my money) it has to be good enough for the money. This CD is definitely worth the money. Is it my favorite? Hard to say. I find my favorite is whatever one I am listening to at the time. There are some individual songs that I can live without but overall I am very pleased about LL's music. So pleased that I would drive 4 hours one way to see her in Asheville even though I have put in 6,000 miles since May 1st. Gotta go and unpack and play the CD again. The friend and I give it a thumbs up. Oh and Mary, you sound marvelous! Rose BIRDGRDNR@AOL.COM ------------------------------ End of octoroon-digest V3 #29 *****************************
