New CD Laura releases her seventh album, entitled Fourteen Days, on June 27! This is her first recording for Zoe, the contemporary music imprint of Rounder Records. Fourteen Days carries on Laura’s tradition of combining music genres - funk, folk, R&B, jazz and blues - into a seasoned stew of jumpin’ dance tunes and beautiful ballads. The CD features Laura’s long time crew - Rod Cook (guitar, vocals), Chris Leighton (drums, percussion) and Barbara Lamb (fiddle) - with special guests on accordion, horns and harmonica. Some of the songs on Fourteen Days were largely influenced by the WTO “battle in Seattle” which practically took place in Laura’s backyard. She approaches the subjects of social justice, environmental activism, and her pot bust of 1992 as only she can - with humor, sly lyrics and a wicked funk beat. In addition to her always cool originals, she includes an incredible cover of Laura Nyro's Stoned Soul Picnic and a heartbreakingly beautiful version of the folk classic, Shenandoah. Pick this up at the store after 6/27 or pre-order from Rounder.com, Ladyslipper.org, or Amazon.com. Summer Album Release Tour Laura is traveling with her band around North America this summer and fall. She will be performing lots of new material along with the old faves and as usual, will have CDs for sale at the shows. You can always meet Laura at the sales table after the show - bring stuff for her to sign, or just say hello! If you want more information on the shows, call the number listed after the venue or go to the website for the event. New shows are being added all the time, so keep checking for updates. If you want Laura to come to your town, the best thing you can do is call the festival, club or college where she would most likely play and tell the person responsible for booking artists that you would like to see Laura there. If the presenters don’t hear from you, they sure don’t want to hear from me. It arrived at most radio stations June 12. It is very important that your radio stations hear from you ASAP! Air time is so scarce that if a station doesn’t get an immediate response, they will stop playing a cut after a few weeks and move on to the next artist. So please call or email your local AAA, public supported and college stations to request I Am Going To Miss You, or anything off of Fourteen Days. Laura had a great radio showing the first week - she is receiving air play on the following stations. Please encourage them to keep it up!: KMTT Seattle 103.7, 206/233-8984, studio@kmtt.com WYYB Nashville, 615/777-9400, wyyb.com WYEP Pittsburgh 91.3, 412/381-9900, Jack@wyep.org KPFT Houston 90.1, 713/526-5738 kpft.org WMNF Tampa 88.5, 813/239-9663 dj@wmnf.org WCBE Columbus 90.5, 614/365-5555 wcbe@iwaynet.net KRCC Colorado Springs 91.5, 800/748-2727 krcc.org KUWR Cheyenne, 800/729-5897 dwoods@uwyo.edu WBZC Burlington, NJ 88.9 KSUT Durango 90.1, 970/563-0255 ksut@ksut.org WNCS Burlington WXPN Philadelphia, 215/573-WXPN requests@xpn.org LL In Film Watch for a great documentary on the Seattle WTO protests. It is called Trade-Off and was shown last week at the Seattle International Film Festival. It won the Golden Space Needle award for Best Documentary. Laura performed at The People's Gala the night before the big labor rally last November and the filmmaker, Shaya Mercer, used some footage of Laura singing Amazing Grace toward the end of the film. It is very moving and really well done. The film is trying to attract a distributor, so it won't be in a regular theatrical release for a while, but watch for it at your local film festivals and call your public TV outlets to request it. LL Web Site Finally, finally, finally we are launching an official web site. It won't be up for a few more weeks, but you should be able to find it at lauralove.net soon. See you at the shows! ------------------------------ End of octoroon-digest V3 #21 *****************************
