Hello to all on the Octoroon List! Sorry I haven't been in communication but let me clear up all the confusion right here and now about the new album, the shows, etc. The reason I haven't been writing is because we've been busy in the studio! The new album, Fourteen Days, is now complete and will be released on June 27 on Zoe Records, a subsidiary of Rounder. Rounder is a great small label, they've been around for a million years promoting wonderful music that is a bit left of center, and they have had a couple of great "commercial" successes as well (Alison Krause, Susan Tedeschi). Rather than be a tiny fish in the huge Mercury pond, Laura intends to be a monster fish in the smaller Rounder pond. We all couldn't be happier. No one has access to the album yet, not until 6/27, although it sounds like Ladyslipper is taking advance orders, which is great. They are totally reliable, and will get your order out as soon as they have their hands on it, but believe me, it won't be before 6/27 because we don't even have the cover done yet. We will not have any with us at Merlefest, but Laura will be performing a couple songs off the new release. Here is the latest itinerary: APRIL 28-30 Wilkesboro NC - Merlefest 2000, 800/343-7857 MAY Nada JUNE 27 Release of NEW CD! on Rounder Records! 29 Great Barrington MA - Club Helsinki, 413/528-3394 30 NYC - Celebrate Brooklyn JULY 1 tent-Boston/Somerville MA 2 tent-Northampton MA - Iron Horse 7 tent-Comox Valley, Vancouver BC 14 Grass Valley CA - California World Music Festival 15 Berkeley CA - Freight & Salvage 22 McCall ID - Mc Call Folk Music Festival, 208/634-4595 29 tent - Asheville NC - Bele Chere Festival AUGUST 5-6 Canmore AB -Canmore Folk Festival, 403/678-3561 11 tent-Sandpoint ID - Festival @ Sandpoint 12-13 Edmonton AB - Edmonton Folk Fest 31 Annapolis MD - Ram's Head, 410/268-4545 SEPTEMBER 1 tent-NYC 2 Earlville NY - The Earlville Opera House, 315/691-3550 3 Charlestown RI - Rhythm & Roots Festival @ Ninigret 10 Silverton CO - Silverton Rhythm Festival 16 Bishop CA - Millpond Traditional Music Festival OCTOBER 14 tent - Minneapolis MN 27 tent - Santa Cruz CA 28 Santa Barbara CA - The Lobero Theatre If you have questions about getting tickets for these shows, call the number listed after the concert. The Laura Love Band is now a quintet. The core group consists of Laura (bass, vocals), Rod Cook (guitars, vocals), Chris Leighton (drums, percussion), and Jennifer Todd (guitar, mandolin, vocals). Then there is the fifth "rotating" position. Depending on where we are playing and who is available the fifth person will either be Barbara Lamb (fiddle), Dick Powell (harmonica) or Nova Devonie (ex-Ranch Romance accordion). All of those players are fabulous and really add to Laura's performance and all are on the new record. AND I have a writing credit on the title cut and I play mandolin on it. I am an amateur player at best and had never recorded before and let me tell you, people, that was a trip. If you ever think that being a musician is a bunch of fun and games, just try sitting in a little booth with a microphone that is like the most sensitive microscope in the world and try getting it right with the whole band watching you while the clock ticks at $150 an hour. Yikes, it was the hardest thing I ever did. And the other big news is that we are about to launch the official Laura Love website at long last. It will be about a month from now so check out www.lauralove.net in a bit. Keep spreading the word of Love and we'll see you at the shows!
