It is simple economics of supply and demand (mostly demand). CDs sound better and last longer without degridation. People are _willing_ to pay more for that, so the record companies charge more. When Laura was producing her own CDs, she still charged $15 for a CD, and I DARE you to get morally indignant with HER! ;-) If you don't like it, buy tapes (while you still can). What I want to know is, since the profit per CD is so much higher than per tape, do the artists get more money from the record companies for a CD than for a tape? If not, then THAT is something to get indignant about! In any case, I'm hoping that the _big_ companies take a _big_ hit from the whole MP3 thing. I'm not holding my breath, though. - ---- Jake C BuddhaBuddy@hotmail.com Jesus Saves... but Gretsky gets the rebound... he shoots... he SCORES!!! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of octoroon-digest V2 #25 *****************************
