This year it is hosted by David Byrne and last year (when Laura appeared) it was hosted by Chris Douridas, an eclectic radio programmer from KRCW in Santa Monica. It features a variety of really cool artists from all different genres performing in front of a live studio audience at the Sony TV studio in New York. There's an interview segment that is edited into a 30 minute segment. Laura taped her session in August of 1997 and it originally aired between Christmas and New Years that same year. It seems that PBS rebroadcasts it from time to time because I'll either get mail or calls, or I'll see Laura's sales figures go up in some city inexplicably. In the last few weeks I've been getting messages from Australia from people who have never heard of her before, where they showed her segment on New Year's Eve. Anyway, if you call your PBS station and request it, who knows? They might show it. Good luck! It is a *very* cool show, featuring artists you've never heard of as well as extremely well-known folks (for instance, this week is John Mellencamp and Randy Newman). Definitely worth checking out, or begging your local PBS station to carry if they don't, especially if you have eclectic taste in music (as I suspect many Laura Love fans do)! Brief intro to me, since people have been doing that; I'm a writer, librarian-in-training, and music addict in Indiana. Other favorite musicians include Indigo Girls, Ferron, Ani DiFranco, Melissa Ferrick, Rose Polenzani (a real up-and-coming acoustic singer-songwriter I got to hear at a cool house concert last night -- definitely someone to watch out for), and many many others. I first heard Laura some years ago at the National Women's Music Festival, and enjoyed her, but didn't really get *hooked* on her till the Lotus World Music Festival a couple of years ago - -- she was on the bill for a free outdoor concert on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon, and I danced my butt off right in front of the stage the whole time -- definitely the BEST way to enjoy her music! I have been a real "observer" on this list and decided I should now participate. My name is Marla. I'm 23 and I live in NYS. I first found out about Laura Love about 2 summers ago. I went to a party and found myself in a conversation with some other people who shared the same musical interests/taste. This guy had strongly suggested that I look into purchasing "Octoroon" and that I would love it!!! I went out and bought it the next day and I do LOVE it. Laura's sound is so unique. I also own Puntamayo's CD of The Laura Love Collection. I love "Amazing Grace" and "A Ha Me A Riddle I Day". I wanted to go, so badly to see her this past summer at The Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in upstate NY, right over the border of Mass and never did get to go. I hope to make an attempt this summer. I also wanted to add, that I really enjoy reading everyone's messages. It has recently been very active with everyone introducing themselves! Take care!
