They have in the past, in fact I won a pair of tix a couple years back to see her at the backstage (now a fitness club, BTW.) Please request her music on KCMU!! 543-KCMU. I've requested her several times, but they haven't fit her in yet. PS Venus Envy (Folklife Festival, 1994) was my intro to LL too. ( Philip S. And their Christmas concerts were always a hoot. Very funny and creative. They have one cd/tape released. I think it is available through Ladyslipper records. Also, before these bands, Laura was also a member of a hard rock band called Boom Boom G.I. I certainly like her music more now. ;) - --drew - -----Original Message----- From: Doug Dorer [SMTP:dorerd01@CCVAX.MMC.EDU] Sent: Wednesday, January 20, 1999 11:37 AM To: octoroon@smoe.org Subject: Re: [octoroon] Laura in Seattle Wouldn't this be Venus Envy? I saw them in Seattle a few times in 1993-1994. They would have really fun concerts at Christmas. It is indeed, and there is a description and sound clips from "I'll Be a Homo For Christmas" as well: [you may have to cut and paste that URL together, or just go to and browse by artist for Venus Envy.] Ladyslipper is an excellent resource for music by women, of all genres. >Also, before these bands, Laura was also a member of a hard rock band called >Boom Boom G.I. As to who we are, we are everyone. Laura brings together many different styles of music, and many different kinds of people. I'm a 28yo male software developer, originally from Montana, but living in Seattle for now. My parents have a blues/jazz club that has themed jam nights on weeknights, one of which was bluegrass. I have NEVER cared for anything resembling bluegrass until I saw a video of Laura (I'm A Given' Way) on PBS a few years ago. I found one of her CDs by accident at a small shop in Pikes Place Market almost a year later. I'm pretty sure I have all of them now but Collections. Pangaea is still my favorite. I first saw Laura live at her Shum Ticky CD Release in Seattle, and at the King Kat Theater the next night. I dragged a couple friends (a geologist and an engineer) to the concert, and made some converts. I loaned them my Shum Ticky CD that night and havn't seen it since... (growel) We're going to see her again tonight at the Tractor Tavern. Look for the guy with long black hair glasses with a chip in them. I wonder if I'll get my CD back... :-) - ---- Jake C BuddhaBuddy@hotmail.com Jesus Saves... but Gretsky gets the rebound... he shoots... he SCORES!!! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Jan 1999 23:13:09 -0600 From: "Jimmie and Tia L. I'm 36, female, fabric artist. In the real world, I sell sewing machines. BTW, my 13 yo daughter is also a fan (when I'm not looking) :>) I keep hoping they'll play Chicago or St. Louis. It was released in 1989. Laura sings the vocals for all songs. I have a copy and occasionally I have seen it in the used bin of cd stores up here in Seattle. Also, several people on this mailing list have mentioned personal descriptions of themselves. Myself I am 31 y.o. and I have lived here in Seattle for about 10 years. I am biologist by day and a dancing, computin', queer activist fool by night. If I had to pick a favorite song by Laura it would be "Bang, Bang". I first heard the song at my first concerts of hers in 1992 and it is such a beautiful song that I always find enchanting. Also glad to see the increased traffic on this mailing list :) - --drew On Thu, 21 Jan 1999, Deb wrote: > > >Also, before these bands, Laura was also a member of a hard rock band called > >Boom Boom G.I.
