I would be surprised if we were invited this year because she played the last two years in a row and it is unusual for a festival to keep inviting the same players. They need to rotate the artists for variety and to give others a chance at that great audience. Laura would crack up at the notion that she might have been offended by being "bumped" from the closing slot by Ricky Skaggs (he had travel difficulties and couldn't get in on time). She's pretty mellow about that kind of thing and actually prefers an earlier time slot so it all worked out. Laura loves Merlefest and would love to come back. The most important factor in Laura being hired is for the festival to hear from you. Call 'em up, drop a note. Thanks for your post. I went in last night to get a capo and some Indigo Girls sheet music and they were playing Laura Love! Freaked me out. :) I was listening to it and I was like "hey, I know this music. Who is this?" And then I started singing along with it and it was "All Our Lives". Oh yes! They went on to play some more LL songs that I hadn't heard before. But it was a very nice surprise. *^*^*^*^* * _O_ * * / | \ * rick * _/ \_ * * * * _ * ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Oct 1998 09:08:06 -0400 From: MMcfaul805@aol.com (by way of Deb ) Subject: [octoroon] Laura Love Tour dates 10/16 Tampa, FL Skipper's, 813/238-8001 10/17-18 Live Oak, FL Suwannee River Music Park, 904/249-7990 11/7 Eugene, OR WOW Hall, Wilmafest 541/687-2746 11/19 Monterey, CA Morgans 831/655-6868 11/20 Santa Cruz, CA Palookaville, 831/454-0600 11/21 Chico, CA 319 Club 11/22 Davis, CA Palms Playhouse, 530/756-8502 12/6 tentative: Annapolis, MD Ram's Head 12/7 tent: DC, Iota 12/9 tent: Philadelphia, The Khyber 12/10 tent: NYC, Wetlands 12/11 tent: Portsmouth, RI 1/23/99: Seattle, WA Shoreline Community College 2/26: Socorro, NM, New Mexico Tech 3/6: Anchorage, AK Discovery Theater We're also working on dates in Bloomington, IN, Chicago, Ann Arbor, and Grand Rapids, MI. I've only heard a few songs of Laura Love on Tampa's community radio station. I was really impressed and intrigued with her style. Which album would be a good first album to get? I probably will be going to her show on Friday, so I could always find out more about her music that way. Will her CD's be sold at the show?
