Eve Shapiro mentioned that Laura Love had been playing at the Lotus Festival here in Bloomington the past couple years, and recommended looking up the festival for this year. Well, the festival happened about 3 weeks ago. Despite the fact that Laura was a HUGE crowd pleaser last year, she wasn't at this year's festival. Rumor has it that the Lotus selection committee places a two year limit on repeat performances in the interest of keeping the festival as diverse as possible. The Bloomington Laura Lovers were sadly disappointed. She had been planning on staying at my friend's house! Nonetheless the festival was very popular and continued to have incredible acts from around the world. On that note, if anyone has a chance to see Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir, I highly recommend it. The photo with the rock formations is outside of Vantage and the back cover shows LL walking down the road that leads to the famous Gorge amphitheater (just outside of George, WA which of course is right next to Martha, WA). Laura and band just finished a run of concerts and "instores" (short appearances in record stores that get really silly sometimes) that were very fun. We had great shows in Portland, Seattle, Boulder and San Francisco. The band sounds better and better all the time. We go to Florida 10/16-18, Eugene OR 11/7, and Monterey, Santa Cruz, Chico and Davis, CA 11/19-22. If you haven't yet, please pick up a copy of Shum Ticky and be sure to call your local radio station to request it. We love public radio and we also need exposure on commercial AAA radio (AAA stations play artists like Shawn Colvin, Sarah McGlaughlin, Dave Mathews, etc.). Thanks for all your kind words - it means a lot to us to hear from you. The Lotus Festival was a couple of weeks ago and, no, Laura wasn't here this year (although there was a lot of really incredible music). Too bad! My very favorite LL concert of all time was when she played a free outdoor stage during the 1997 Lotus Festival -- the weather was gorgeous, and I danced my butt off right in front of the stage. (Truth is, I'd only been a moderate fan before that day -- but I was most definitely converted!) I don't think artists for next year's Lotus Festival have been announced yet, but you can find their web site at http://www.lotusfest.org to get some sense of what it's all about. Very, very cool festival.
