I'm very pleased to say that I think ST is even better than "Octoroon." I'm actually surprised to hold that opinion so soon... when I love an album like I love "Octoroon," the follow-up is almost always a let-down, at least until I've had time to give it a fair listen on its own merits. But I am seriously loving ST already! I miss Julie... she's only on one song (accordion, "Longfellow Creek"). And I'm disappointed that only 8 ot the 13 songs are new (1 cover - "The Clapping Song," and 4 older songs re-recorded -- "Aha Me a Riddle A Day," "I'm A Givin' Way," "Less Is More," "Bang Bang"). However, my favorite right now is the cover, and the older songs are well-chosen and deserve a wider audience, so I'm not complaining! I don't have time to evaluate each song, and it might be meaningless to many of you at this point anyway, but IMO there's not one I'd ever consider skipping, though the are quite varied. Great note from Laura inside... sadly, she hasn't found her mom yet (see "Octoroon" liner notes). I hope Mercury give ST the promotion it deserves. They've updated her page, and they're featuring ST on their home page , so that's a good start! I also hope Laura tours heavily to promote it. I know I heard the Putamayo Collection and parts of "Octoroon" and never "got it" until I saw her live... - -- Deb \\ indigo@mindspring.com \\ http://www.mindspring.com/~indigo ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Oct 1998 20:51:03 -0700 From: nora95@juno.com Subject: Re: [octoroon] Shum Ticky Just saw Laura on Sunday night in San Francisco....what a treat. The fiddle player is excellent. Haven't purchased her CD yet, but it sounded real good at the show. nora ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
