Acoustic Guitar; Kate Wolf I just got word that there's an article about Laura in the October issue of Acoustic Guitar, so look for that. - ------------------ Julie's twin sister Kate got a good review in this month's "Performing Songwriter" : "Here's more sweetness from Cake Records. Kate Wolf has worked as a producer and band member for several Seattle-based acts. She's been noted for her unique musicianship as well as her unique instruments, which, in the past, have included a one-string bass and a Tide Detergent bottle called a "laundry liquid lute." _Daisy Petals On My Head_ boasts the same carefree and playful approach as it swings from folk to jazz and back again. "Wolf's lyrics flow like poetry as she ruminates on relationships (good and bad), dreams, and desires. "Ginger Ale" speaks of things that are constant and timeless, and of those who remember and those who forget. A sparse soprano sax floats in and out of "Try Try Fly" while a pedal dobro adds some blue tinges to the slinky "I Think I Told You So." "Whoop Tee Do" goes even further into the blues with its Hammond organ flourishes. "With a hushed, breathy alto, Wolf wisely keeps her production low-key, keeping the mephasis on her image-filled song sketches. Her identical twin sis, Julie (who's in Ani DiFranco's band), makes several appearances adding vocals, accordion and tongue drum, and Catie Curtis even shows up playing the snare drum. "To sum it up with another bad pun, _Daisy Petals on My Head_ finds this unique talent in full bloom." - ------------------ You can buy it by sending a check for $17 ($15 for the CD + $2 shipping) to Kate Wolf at PO Box 22494, Seattle, WA 98122-0494. My check is in the mail! - -- Deb \\ indigo@mindspring.com \\ http://www.mindspring.com/~indigo ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Sep 1998 17:33:55 EDT From: FZFan641@aol.com Subject: Re: [octoroon] Oct. Sure enough! Actually, the whole band is on the cover (Laura, Barbara, Chris, and Rod), but the article is about Rod's techniques (Laura is quoted as well). There's another pic of the band inside the mag. The cover title is: Playing in the Band: On The New Acoustic Cutting Edge". I found it at Borders (my Barnes & Noble didn't carry it). - -- Deb \\ indigo@mindspring.com \\ http://www.mindspring.com/~indigo ------------------------------ End of octoroon-digest V1 #44 *****************************
