She is an excellent performer, and is a joy to watch...but gig after gig, night after night, town after town, the whole thing would start to blur like some bad Bukowski vison. (Besides, just think of all the time she'll have to create more tunes; or make some old spiritual new again. And what of the cats?) As for making a living or a name, who are we talking about: Laura or Julie? Seems both are missed. One for not touring so much & the other for not being on this tour. My two cents. I missed Julie too. That's not to slight Barbara, it's just that many of the songs on Octoroon were so subtly orchestrated & the accordion was a vital part of the mix. On Pangaea, fiddle was more predominent. Hey there are tunes on all her albums that I like & not all the artists are the same. Personally, at Falcon Ridge, I was hoping that Jo Miller would have made an unscheduled appearance and heard them both yodel together, or to have at least heard Laura sing "There Ain't No Ash Will Be Burn" live. Maybe next time. ------------------------------ End of octoroon-digest V1 #37 *****************************
