Anyone have any idea how often she'd come through the Midwest in the past? Also, I know some folks who host House Concerts around here (who've had names as big as Richard Shindell). I guess I shouldda sent my review from The Utah Arts Festival (June 27th)! What can I say? If you've seen Laura and her band, you know how electrifying she is in person, if not, don't miss her when she's in your area (we had some folks that had come from Colorado just to catch her here in Salt Lake). Most of the songs they performed were from "Octoroon," but they did a few of the older tunes too from "Pangaea" and "Helvetica Bold." I MC'd, so I got to see them up close - from backstage - AWESOME! The energy was incredible. I've been told that the sound isn't as good, but who cares? It was a once in a lifetime experience, I'm sure! Being able to watch Laura dance around and pound on that bass from a few feet away - awesome! And Barbara Lamb can play a fiddle like no one's business. Chris Leighton was incredible on the most interesting assemblage of percussive instruments I think I've ever seen. It was an experience I will never forget, don't pass up the chance when it comes your way... if you have to make a bit of a road trip, why not, now's the time for it, right? We're taking our 8 yr old daughter to the show (she discovered LL for us at a Barnes and Noble "Listening Station" and we've been addicts since). I guess she'll be the only kid there, but the manager at the club was really great on the phone and said he'd okay a minor's presence. From reading others' posts, I'm expecting a fantastic show.
