Hello Friends!!
Dave Chalfant here dropping in to let you know about some cool shows
coming to the Iron horse in the next couple of weeks.
This Friday (April 14) at 7:00 our dear friend Ben Demerath will throw a
big Iron Horse CD release party for his new album "Jack of Fools." Joining
Ben will be cool drummer Lorne Entress (he produced Mark Erelli's last
record) super duper guitarist Jim Henry and some guy named Dave Chlaflant on
bass. Now if that weren't enough the Remarkable Beth Amsel will play an
opening set. For those of you who don't know Ben he is a brilliant singer
and songwriter from these parts whose guitar playing I've been ripping off
since I met him. You can hear Ben helping us Nields out on our new CD. He
plays guitar and sings on "Keys to the Kingdom."
Now next Friday (April 21) at 7:00 Erin McKeown will throw a CD release
bash for her new record "Distillation". Erin and I had a blast making this
record so come check it out. If you don't know about Erin yet you will soon.
Come on time so you don't miss the puppet show. Really.
As you can see while Katryna and Nerissa have been out probing I've been
home helping our friends make CD's. I feel honored to have gotten the chance
to work with Ben and Erin and I'm really proud of the results. So come on
out to the Iron Horse for a little "What I did on my winter vacation while my
wife was out working really hard."
Take care friends. I'll see you soon.
Dave Chalfant

Hey everyone
I just wanted to make sure you were all aware that the Karma show in Boston
tomorrow night really begins at 7:00pm. The Karma was giving out the wrong
info and The Nields webpage was also wrong. Why should you trust me then?
Cause I tell the band when the show starts and when they need to get on
stage. :) So, the doors open tomorrow night at 6pm and The Kennedys will
start the show at 7:00pm.

**From today's Philadelphia Inquirer (5/5/00)**
Nields/Kennedys
Get ready for a feast of winning, old-school pop. Zoe label mates the
Kennedys and The Nields specialize in the kind of smart, soaringly tuneful
music that no longer conquers the charts but which will still sound fresh
long after most of today's hits become hopelessly dated. Pete and Maura
Kennedys' "Evolver" and The Nields "If You Lived Here You'd Be Home Now"
manage to be both lushly layered and invitingly organic, with warm, harmony
laden, female vocals outfront. Not that they are clones of one another:
while the Kennedys tend more towards a Byrdsian jangle and include some
psychedelic touches, the Nields shimmering pop with the occasional "Penny
Lane" - style horn embellishments gives way now and then to spare ballads and
country music.

Hi Everyone
I know several people on this list have asked about the show at MIT this
weekend. Well, we just got this from the promoter and I thought I'd pass it
along in. Sorry if it means some of you who are interested can't go! -

*******
Sorry if it wasn't clear, but a college ID is required for
entrance to the show at MIT. It can be from any college
(we had several Canadian IDs for our past Fruvous shows)
and can be faculty, staff, or family ID's, not just student.
But a college ID is required. Sorry :(

Subject: A Message from Nerissa Nields and Tour Schedule
Greetings to all of our dear friends and fans! Courtney, our bright and
witty assistant manager is leaving us after over two years of grueling
service to get a dual degree in ethnomusicology and yacht architecture at the
University of Hawaii. She will be closely monitored for deviant behavior,
lest she publish her copious diary from the past few years entitled "Memoirs
From the Virtual Nuthouse or How I Worked For Peanuts For Patty and the
Insane Nields Posse along with some Other Kooks." Ah well. She is destined
for great things, and we will miss her, her tenacious and intrepid
enthusiasm, her sincere convictions about caffeine and her very classy
tourbooks. I tell you all this to explain why I, Nerissa, am sitting here in
Patty's office using Courtney's old account to send you your update. See,
I'm on vacation, which I don't exactly know how to do. At first it was nice;
I did my laundry, watched TV, yelled at the Republicans and also my dogs
(they peed on the futon--the dogs that is, not the Republicans), pretended to
be Cindy Wilson of the b-52's, finally got around to answering over a month
worth of e-mails, watered my plants a few times and then, when I had done
everything that didn't require my right brain that I was supposed to do and
was face to face with what I really HAD to do (write songs) I immediately
thought, "Hmm. What can I possibly do besides this? I know! I'll go work
for Patty at $5 hour!" She gladly accepted my services which at least on the
initial phone spec were going to be about 8 hours per week. I was Full of
Enthusiasm! I would repress my feelings with mindless office work! I would
commute to an actual job! I would get to justify driving past Starbucks and
drinking a quadruple Grande decaf Caffe Americano twice a day with impunity!
I would be a real American of the Twenty First Century! Then Monday came.
It was Labor Day, and loyal union worker that I am, naturally I didn't come
into work, even though I'd told Patty I could only ever work on Mondays and
half of Tuesdays (see, I usually gig the other days of the week). And then a
clear, brilliant Tuesday dawned, an unrecognizable daughter to her hot flash
hazy humid mother, Monday, and I ran naked out into the early morning chilly
dew and sang "Take This Job and Shove It!" NO, not really! Really I called
Dar and told her I had writer's block and she told me to court the muse, not
the idea and to enjoy being an incredibly sensitive artist. Oh, and also to
feel my feelings. I hate that. So, long story short, I showed up at quarter
of five with Starbucks as a peace offering to Patty and inputed ten names
into the e-mail mailing list. Then I got this idea to write you all a
letter, and oh, well, now it's time for me to go! It's six o'clock, and Joe
Hill did not die so that I would have to work overtime for the Man. Hope to
see you all at the shows! I promise to play a new song THIS MONTH!
Love, Nerissa

Live Web Broadcast!!!!!!
On Sept 29th Nerissa and Katryna Nields' show at McCabe's Guitar Shop (Santa
Monica, CA) will be broadcast live. Here is how to see it.
To access a webcast (live or archived), you need to have two plug-ins
installed on your computer. You may already have these installed, but if you
don't, here are the links:
1. Flash - an animation language necessary to view the site - is available
for free download at this address:
http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=Shockwa
veFlash
2. A RealPlayer G2 or 7 - an audio / video player - is available for free
download at this address:
http://www.real.com/player/index.html?src=oldg2choice
Once these are installed, you can enter the DCN website,
http://www.digitalclubnetwork.com. Click on the "now playing" pull-down
menu at the scheduled showtime and choose the show you'd like to watch.
This will launch your "Go Live Player." Register as a new user if this is
your first visit to the site. Make a note of your password for future
visits. Wait for the "Go Live Player" to connect and buffer, then the
player will stream the show live. For archived shows, go to the "Live
Library" on the main page.
Note that the show is transmitted via SureStream, which adapts to your own
computer's modem speed. The faster connection you have, the better, with T1
and ISDN connections at the top of the quality
ladder. While a 28.8K connection will work, at least a 56K connection is
necessary to maintain competent audio and video quality throughout the
cybercast.
