I'm still struggling with the direction for the journal or if I feel like I have anything to say at all these days but it was helpful to just go out and write something. After 3-4 paragraphs it started to flow more naturally. The first few paragraphs were *very* self conscious I think, probably because I just read the local paper which consists almost wholly of entries like this one (this one's real): "Mt. Tabor. Mrs. L.V. Jenkins Church attendance was 28. We send our prayers to the families of Elvia Moore and Voyne Hartley. Brother Ray Dobbs was our speaker for the morning and evening services... [...snip...] Herman Duckworth, Springfield, was a visitor in the Norman Duckworth home. The dDuckworth Children were in for lunch on Tuesday. Kay Hutchison attended the blessing of granddaughter Amy at the Mormon church in West Plains Sunday Morning. Bob Hathcock and Sarah, Jim and Jo Hathcock and Eleazar Soto, Jr., were recent guests of the Martin Hathcocks. Eleazar and Ronda Soto made a trip to Mexico to be with his mother, following a stroke. Helen Hodges is still unable to get out and about, and daughter Lena Fae has spent several days with her lately. Others stopping in were Jerry and Naomi Hunnell..." Anyway you get the idea. It was the style which seems to be somewhat infectious. I'm one to easily pick up accents around people and apparently I pick up writing styles too. Speaking of picking up accents - did anyone else hear the article on Weekend Edition (NPR) about the Queens English degrading? One thing they talked about was about picking up accents and it said that the more dominant person in a conversation is likely to be the one whom people pick up accents from. That makes sense - as someone not particularly confident in conversations I can see why I pick them up. Anyway - enough rambling. Enjoy the rest of your Easter. - -Todd ------------------------------ End of newtyrtle-digest V3 #10 ******************************
