I can understand the reaction but before you hold that to be your opinion, please consider the following: I received my copy, here in America, last week. Through Maple Music, I was lucky enough to get one of the extra signed booklets. This is always a nice thing to have, though, like many of us, I have a few others stashed away. I think I may frame this one, though. The art is complimentary to my living room. I hear the vast difference in this album. I noticed the focus on drums and rhythms that I would have even if I hadn't read Sarah's on take on the album. I was shocked at how cheerful it sounded. After going through a 4 month splurge of emotion, I don't think my creations would have come out in such a giddy form. I was glad she had the ability to step away from her self and try to discover what she loved about the music she listens to and try to incorporate that in her own. I hope she sincerely feels she was successful at doing so. This album is not concurrent with who we fell in love with, though. And therein lies the problem people are having. Therein lies the ache some feel when listening to the album expecting the same girl we met and adored back in the late nineties. But people change and people mature and people alter themselves. Artists change their creations. The worst thing an atist can feel is boredom with their own work. You don't have to buy or like every piece of work of your favorite artist. Know where your distaste stems from, though. Don't be shallow. If it's a simple matter of not being able to relate at all or not finding something pleasing on a personal level, then so be it. It's important to respect the artist and understand their goals and reasons for creating what they did. If they consider it accomplished, then that's ultimately all that matters. Be proud of them for that. I'm not saying those who've complained are in need of these lessons. I've just found myself on a rant here. Perhaps I'll stop before I get too ahead of myself. Enjoy this contribution into Sarah's collection of heart-wrenching work. And remember to only burn copies for your car, not your lazy friends!!! Without actual sales, the execs will never know how many fans are out there. With that said, I hope Sarah Comes back to the Philadelphia area again soon! *hint hint* Virtually yours, Coz Baldwin http://www.cozbaldwin.com http://www.thecarpetedwall.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Oct 2004 19:00:01 -0400 From: "Neal Jennings" Subject: little nugget from Damhnait Doyle http://www.dav-net.com/diary/davnet_diaries.htm - very brief mention in her blog I also saw her on Saturday at the Shaye concert and she mentioned that it's been in her CD player ever since she got it... she even did a brief little rendition of Day One (the song) because it seemed to please her so much lol :) - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I support equal marriage. nj01aa@badger.ac.brocku.ca http://nealj_3.tripod.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Oct 2004 19:29:25 -0600 From: "Katie Belsher" Subject: reviews galore! i've really been loving this dialogue. i have. its so important to discuss music. i'm excited about the controversy over this album, and think that it will do the album good. i love what Kristilyn said about the "overproduction" of the CD, "I mean, it's not like Sarah wasn't involved in the making of the CD. She is listed as one of the producers, played a ton of instruments (and new ones at that - timpani, guitar). I'd almost have to believe that she was in the studio during the making of the CD. I just don't understand what the fuss is about it being overproduced. Sarah *was* there during the making of it, she obviously was involved in the production, and she did release it to stores. What's wrong with respecting her in that she wanted to put out something different?" AMEN! i especially loved this, from Jarita, "...it doesn't matter when you became a fan, this isn't a job, seniority doesn't count!" and Coz Baldwin, what you said. this is all good stuff. it's good to have opinions, and dialogue about the music and artists we love. criticism is a great thing! especially from fans. it's been fun. and frusterating. but i've come to accept that we all like to throw in our two cents, and that sometimes our opinions clash. but in the end, its all for the love of music, and that's a good thing. onward with more discussion! katie _________________________________________________________________ Take charge with a pop-up guard built on patented Microsoft.
