I heard him live back in 2002 when I was studying French, and I was quite taken by the intriguing comic-like style and voice - what a creative voice! And, of course, he's a master pianist. His melodies are rooted in Quebecois culture, his lyrics are poetry, and his style is quite like Hawksley Workman in that it is off the beaten path. I can't say I know any other music like it. I bought his EP back at his show, and now he has a self-titled album out. If the soundclips on www.pierrelapointe.com don't satisfy you, I have stored the album in OGG Vorbis format at http://kyall.spymac.net/pierre. (if you're not familiar with OGG Vorbis, you can download Winamp and play those files.) Please be kind and respectful of Pierre - download only what you need to make a decision whether or not you should buy the album. I bought it from amazon.ca, for those of you in Anglophone communities. I strongly recommend "Place des Abbesses" which is very Sarah cabaret-style, and "Pointant le nord" which will always hold a special place for me as I've enjoyed it for over two years. Can't wait for "Day One" to be released... peace kg ------------------------------ End of navy-soup-digest V7 #37 ******************************
