The festival takes place on several stages at Exhibition Place, and the only tickets seem to be package deals, not really per single show. So there's a weekend ($45) or day pass ($20) that lets you see everything on all stages. Other artists at the fest that might be of interest to some folks here are Kathleen Edwards (July 17), Gillian Welch (July 18), and The Weakerthans (July 23). Unfortunately, that weekend is also the big Hillside Festival in Guelph, where any music-loving Torontonian *should* be. ;) I suppose this precludes the presence of any of those fine ladies at Hillside this year (though they could play the Friday or Sunday, I suppose). :( I had my money on Sarah being there for sure, and Martha Wainwright would have been a good fit as well... Martina's played the festival before, plus she doesn't have new material out right now... In other news, ran into Sarah the other day at the Feist in-store, and she mentioned that her new album was mastered that very day, and so all that's left to do is artwork and such before the album comes out, likely August/September. So not long to wait now! According to the Toronto Symphony site (Sarah's playing a big benefit with them next week), the album is to be titled "Baroness". The thing that excites me about it are the co-producers: Pete Prilesnik (who produced Sarah Harmer's wonderful "You Were Here") and Dan Kurtz (bassist for the New Deal [he happens to be married to Martina Sorbara], whose other producing credit is Leslie Feist's exquisite debut album "Monarch"). - - Tab. _________________________________________________________________ STOP MORE SPAM with the MSN Premium and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?pgmarket=en-ca&page=byoa/prem&xAPID=1994&DI=1034&SU=http://hotmail.com/enca&HL=Market_MSNIS_Taglines ------------------------------ End of navy-soup-digest V7 #17 ******************************
