So glad to hear chatter about La Feist already. :) Canadian release date for "Let It Die" is May 18 (on Arts&Crafts, Broken Social Scene's in-house label). Not sure if the U.S. release is simultaneous, but if not, you can order it from their website soon (arts-crafts.ca). The album is a stunner - there's going to be massive buzz very soon. I am starting a mailing list for Feist, and will post details as soon as it's up and running. "Monarch" is, as James has pointed out, essentially 'sold out' (she'd only ever pressed 2000 copies or so), but do check indie and used stores, especially in the Toronto area. And yes, I have a sneaking suspicion that record will be re-pressed when "Let It Die" starts doing well. ;) It's funny because she always used to joke that "one day when my second album does well and I am rich and famous, maybe someone will pay me to re-release the first one". Heh. ;) That Pitchfork review was marvellous. I'd argue that "Mushaboom" is the best track on the record, but it's so full of gems that it's hard to pick just one. Check out this article also: http://www.exclaim.ca/index.asp?layid=22&csid1=2503 Feist is on tour in Canada in June. Toronto date is June 12 at the Mod Club (with openers The Organ, an all-girl Smiths-influenced group from Vancouver). Tickets are $12 and are on sale now. Ian (spark) frequently shared new lyrics, live mp3s, etc with the lists. Just wanted to share the news w/ all of you if you hadn't heard. This was the information found on the Dent website, as he apparently was a huge Tori fan as well. Really sad :( "I was just informed by Jon that his dear friend and fellow Toriphile Ian Mullins (a.k.a Spark) committed suicide recently. Ian ran for many years the successful Tori web site called Tori's Beauty... and a Gun. I was deeply saddened and shocked to hear about his suicide. He was always very nice to me and would sometimes contribute to the Dent, as recently as Spring 2003. Please keep Ian and his friends and family in your thoughts. Click the details link for more information from Jon about this tragedy. This is a huge loss to the Toriphile community... " "Mike, I am writing to inform you of a great loss to me and to the toriphile community. I am shocked and horrified at the discovery that one of my best friends, and a true toriphile, Ian Mullins (a.k.a Spark) has committed suicide. I knew that he suffered from severe depression the whole time I knew him, but I never thought he'd actually do this. He told me about a week ago that he would be moving away and would no longer be able to contact me (due to no computer/internet access, etc.). Other than that he would not tell me where he was going or why or discuss any of it with me. He told me I would receive one last email from him after he moved. Tonite I got that email (i don't know who from) from someone I assume knew him and it had a link to a site made by him, explaining everything. There I learned of the horrible news that he had killed himself. Please make this known to the toriphile community and if possible place some kind of tribute to Ian on The Dent. I, and many others who knew Ian loved him very much. He will be greatly missed and I'm sure we will all be reminded of him whenever we hear Tori's music. I love you Ian, wherever you are and I am glad you're not suffering anymore." jessica - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - jessica weiser :: www.jessicaweiser.com and check out our photography website www.xeptune.net ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 01 May 2004 15:10:24 -0400 From: "Scott P." Ian and I swapped songs and stories quite frequently but I knew very little of his personal life. In this whole big and scary internet it easy to be removed from forming personal relationships with people we actually talk to quite regularly. His loss is deeply felt. My heart has fallen with the news. My thoughts and prayers are with him, but more importantly they are for anyone else out there who might be going through what he was in the time leading up to his death. Depression is a terrible place to be and I personally know what it's like to have those sorts of poisonous thoughts running through my mind. Though it is hard to see sometimes, I believe that we are loved beyond our ability to comprehend. This has just been proven by those out there like myself who have never even seen Ian, but are mourning his loss. May his soul finally rest in peace.
