They joined a group of less recognizable homegrown talents who have worked silently behind the scenes to create the hits that bring popular artists into the limelight. "So many of the songs recorded by the big names were written by Canadians and the world doesn't know this," the Hall of fame's chairman and founder, Frank Davies, told Globeandmail.com. "We want to change that. We want to make Canadians aware of the incredibly rich legacy they have in songwriters," the music publisher said. The Hall of Fame's inaugural inductees were announced during a press conference at the Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Toronto on Wednesday. Hall of fame president Sylvia Tyson and Canadian Idol's Ryan Malcolm were on hand, and tribute performances to were paid to the inductees by Blackie & the Rodeo Kings, Sarah Slean and Jean-Francois Breau. When was this performance announced? I'm so sad I missed it! That would've been great!
