Her debut CD is really good, probably the first (non-indie, non-local ;)) female singer-songwriter album I've really enjoyed in a long time... It took me 3 days to figure out who she sounded like - she sounds a lot like the frontwoman for Canadian indie-rock duo Crash Vegas, Michelle MacAdorey, and in fact the album as a whole shares a very similar sound as Crash Vegas' last CD, "Aurora", with crunchy guitars and atmospheric bits. For those of you not familiar with Crash Vegas, I'd say Gemma's voice is kind of like Sarah Harmer-meets-Patti Griffin-meets-Natalie Merchant. ;) Some of the songs blur together a bit after the initial strong first half, but it's still a really solid album, one of the better new ones I've heard so far this year. Recommended. - - Tab. _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: advanced junk mail protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ------------------------------ End of navy-soup-digest V6 #76 ******************************
